Busaba Eathai (Westfield)

Came here to eat on Saturday after a day's shopping on Saturday. From the moment we entered we should have left after the surly service received by the doorman. Then even though the restaurant was half empty we were squashed onto a busy table with a couple having a domestic. Then we were dying for a drink and the drinks then took about 15 mnins to arrive. We ordered starters and mains, but they all arrived at the same time and were distinctly average/below average and overpriced. The service was rude and poor and slow and the food was nothing special. The pad thai was ridiculously spicy and was not nice. I won't be returning.

Amongst a dense sea of underwhelming Westfield Shepherds Bush dining options we found this safe bet to be a wave of disappointment. We arrived last weekend at a reasonably late 9pm but as you do here in good old Westy the place still had a considerable amount of people milling about to enjoy a bite or two. A very nice waitress took our order of some drinks, starters (or sides or whatever they are) mains and some rice. After about 20 mins and no opportunity to flag down a staff member our food arrived. 10 mins later and after asking again our drinks arrived with a genuine apology (a rare thing round these parts). Every dish was luke warm at best and the calamari was slimy and positively stewed. My sticky rice managed to retain its sticky quality while being dehydrated to the point where it could have passed for building grade concrete. Now not being Thai I suppose it is entirely possible that this nation’s cuisine has deliberately developed to be just so. However this is not an experience I am personally keen to repeat.
If you are desperate to eat in Westfield and feel brave enough to take on the inevitable push chair assault why not try an unimaginative Boring Byron Burger, queue for an hour with the teeny boppers for some cheap Nando’s or delight in noise levels guaranteed to drown out your iPod in what should be a decent Wagamama’s but just isn’t. Having said this the real Geek recently was fun, tasty and this time the bread did not resemble the small pieces of cardboard I put in the recycling. But never again will I ever spend my hard earned cash on that sad impression of “genuine” Spanish tapas using sad old out of season English/Worldwide (but certainly not Spanish) produce. If you really must go there order a glass of Manzanillia and thank God your dinner has already been taken care of. Ah Westfield, how you are truly adored, by some.

Hmmm....I'm really confused, I'm not sure if it's because I haven't been been to Busaba with as much frequency as I used to, or if this Busaba is different from the others - either way I am not impressed. Small portions, lukewarm food, flavours not so apparent (or as described!) and indifferent staff, make for a diabolical dining experience. Do not go to the Westfields branch, it is shockingly bad. I went to the Busaba near Selfridges about 2 months ago and I do not recall feeling quite so annoyed afterwards.

I'll be honest, I had a very disappointing experience here after hearing mostly good things. Food was expensive and portions were minimal, but for me the most unforgivable aspect was the attitude towards me from the staff. Besides brushing off any queries I had about the food, I felt disregarded as a customer and left feeling embarrassed in front of the company I had brought there. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and has put me off eating at the other branches too.
