Lanes Restaurant & Bar

Went here tonight based on the excellent reviews on london eating - however was hugely disappointed. At first we were seated under a music speaker which was likened to being a nightclub, not conducive to a nice evening meal out, we did ask to be moved, which helped, however rest of the seating area was separate to the main area so the upstairs was pretty "dead". Food was average, service was incredibly slow, and we had to wait 40 mins for anyone to take our dessert order at which point, we decided to get the bill. We went on the 50% london eating offer and ended up getting a bill for the full price; we politely pointed this out for them, and they did correct this. Though this was a friday night, the restaurant wasn't hugely busy, and given such, the staff could have been much better especially given that at regular prices, this isn't a cheap restaurant. i wouldn't recommend this restaurant even with the 50% deal.

Very cool and smooth service from a very practised team serving a large menu of food you want to eat. Basically we found it hard to choose and everyone in our group thought they had ordered best.

I'd definitlely recommend Lanes to anyone for business or pleasure and it's worth noting they have a great lounge bar and they're very busy at nights so you'll have a good atmosphere in the evening until late.

Lovely food, well presented and with a lot of choice. I could start eating here on a regular basis with work, though not inexpensive.

The service is also good with friendly staff and quick responses when we needed anything.

Nothing not to like and a whole lot better than similarly priced offerings in the vicinity.

Having discovered the amazing deal on london eating, i decided to take my fussy mother to celebrate her birthday. The staff cannot have been more helpful from start to finish. The food was fabulous particualrly the generously portioned shank of lamb. having tipped off the staff, my mothers dessert was presented with happy birthday written in chocolate around the plate. Superb.

very very busy last week when we went for lunch both times but -

very good food from a large menu

very smart & friendly service

brilliant buzz - prices to match!

love this restaurant especially the crab starter which i had twice and the amazing curried monkfish, yum.

clients loved it too!

Booked lanes through london eating on saturday 16th september and got a table for that same night.

I have to say, I was a little bit dubious as it is near impossible to get a table in the city at a reputable restaurant, but 10 out of 10 for lanes.

The food was well presented and cooked to perfection. The service was efficient, the staff very helpful and pleasant.

Lanes is a little hidden gem, would definately recommend to all my friends, infact i have done already.

What a lovely time we had here last week.

All tastes catered for with really good cooking - very attentive staff and excellent value for money!

Thought the wines were wll priced too!

Fully totally recommend for a knockout time.

My husband and I had a lovely meal at Lanes last night, the scallops with pancetta were exquisit. Although pleased that we had the special offer of '50% off food bill', as it would have worked out rather expensive without!

I am lucky enough to have eaten at Lanes several times over the last few months and just realised that I had not submitted a review of the place.

Firstly decor, I really like the clubby feel of the place and this makes it intimate enough for a romantic meal as well as formal enough for a business lunch, it kind of ticks all the boxes, not totally convinced with the cheap modern pop art but each to their own!

Front of house are very efficient and polite as are the waiting staff, small bug bear is the constant pouring of wine, I like to do this myself and it does feel like they are trying to get as much down you as they can in a short time.

Onto the important bit, food is very good, well thought out but inventive as well as tasting great, my particular favourite is the Halibut on an endive tart with asparagus and orange sauce. This dish is memorable and is possibly one of the nicest fish dishes I have eaten for ages, please keep it on the menu. There are a wide selection of starters and each of the pasta dishes I have enjoyed have been just right. Wine list is quite small and could be a little more interesting but the New Zealand Riesling we had was excellent.

I was here for lunch last week and have to say I was taken aback at how good Lanes was.

Clients can be hard to deal with on home turf let alone at the mercy of a restaurant.

I needn't have worried though, one of the owners was working and the event ran like clockwork.

Aside from the room which I liked and the excellent service (quick and charming) Lanes is in the middle of my city patch - so convenient in fact I'm happy to persude those Canary Wharf based clients to make the treck and see what they're missing out on (who likes Plateau, honestly?)

I had parfait of fois gras, sea bass on lobster mash and Italian cheeses. Pouilly Fume Jean-Max Roger, 2004 good value at £33.50 & great coffee as someone else has mentioned!
