I was here for lunch last week and have to say I was taken aback at how good Lanes was.
Clients can be hard to deal with on home turf let alone at the mercy of a restaurant.
I needn't have worried though, one of the owners was working and the event ran like clockwork.
Aside from the room which I liked and the excellent service (quick and charming) Lanes is in the middle of my city patch - so convenient in fact I'm happy to persude those Canary Wharf based clients to make the treck and see what they're missing out on (who likes Plateau, honestly?)
I had parfait of fois gras, sea bass on lobster mash and Italian cheeses. Pouilly Fume Jean-Max Roger, 2004 good value at £33.50 & great coffee as someone else has mentioned!

Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. When we booked the table, we were a little concerned about the vegetarian menu as one of our party ate neither meat or fish but the on the phone we were assured that it would not be a problem as the chef could make any dish without the meat if required. Once we got there, the staff were more than attentive where just a look got their attention and they were more than happy to help withoout being intrusive or hanging over our heads. For starters, we had the soup which was in a word, perfect. For the main, I had the sea bass with lobster mash and it has to be one of the best things i've ever eaten. from the beginning, we were impressed. Also, I think this place makes the worlds best cappucino - being a fussy coffee drinker, very few places can make it just right and this has to be one of them.
The atmosphere was also just perfect as it was obviously an upmarket restaurant but it wasn't snobbish but curteous and friendly. The decoration too was understated yet the celebrity painings added a nice touch. All in all, I would definately go again but as it's a little pricey for what it is, it would have to be with a special offer again or when i'm feeling more flush. I can't wait to go again though.

I went to Lanes with three others last Friday night, attracted by the 50% offer from London Eating. I have to say I was not prepared to be impressed and so was totally bowled over to discover the food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. The food, in particular, was amazing. For my main course I had the Black Spot chop - the best pork chop I have ever tasted! My other guests were similarly impressed and I'm sure none of us will become stragers to this newly discovered treasure.

Went on a Monday night - an excellent meal in an excellent restaurant. Even on a Monday night, the atmosphere was quite good. And with the 50% off london-eating offered, it was superb value. Many thanks for a great night Lanes, we'll be back!

Went here with friends on the special offer and have to admit this is a fabulous place to dine.
Last Friday was full which is a bit unusual for a city joint in the evening but the food was superb and the service faultless and very friendly.
I've been back this week for lunch with work (client entertaining) and again thought the experience excellent - not sure how this hasn't been on the radar sooner as the owners (both there on my second visit) said they had been open for two and a half years.
I normally eat at sheekey's in the west end or chez bruce at home and Lanes stands up to both - 10/10 all round

Went here for the first time this week - and I will definitely be back.
Both the food and the service were at the absolute top of the league. Simply amazing.
The place looks a bit dated, but this didn't hinder the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
First class.

What at first appears to be a fairly ordinary city bar turns out to have a very impressive restaurant too. The decor/ambience is quite minimalist and fairly relaxed but the food was delicious. From the 3 varieties of bread (including sourdough and rye) on offer to the simple but mouthwatering oven roast tomato and nut salad to the sumptuous delights of venison fillet and game sausage, all dishes were excellent. Served by friendly and welcoming staff and surprisingly inexpensive for this part of town. Highly recommended.
