my husband proposed to me in this restaurant in 1974 and we are still married. I remember it was a fabulous meal and maybe one day we will return. Glad to hear it is still going strong and that the food is just as good.

Went there with my partner for my 40th this week. Loved the fact that the place is still a family run restaurant. My steak was perfectly cooked and presented, as was my partners fish, and the veg was simply and nicely done. Couldn't get our first preference on the wine list, but there are plenty of choices, so was not a problem. As it was a midweek, the restaurant was not busy. The building and decor lent to the atmosphere, in my opinion - none of the clinical modernity that is so common today elsewhere.

Am really glad we went.

The staff, environment and atmosphere were wonderful! However, the food I have to say was average.

Having walked or driven past this restaurant for 30 years I was quite excited to go down the narrow staircase to this basement bistro.

The interior decor was very tired and dated and depressed me a little. The typically French menu cheered me up though.

The onion soup was very good and the Steak Roquefort did not disappoint either, cooked to perfection. One of our party's rack of lamb though was served cold and when it returned after being sent back was then overcooked.

The wine list looked good although our first two choices were out of stock.

Service was very friendly, although the manager and the waiter on duty did go missing for quite long periods.

In short, a nice local bistro, but not quite a place you'd travel any great distance for.

I found this little gem of a restaurant here and I have to say I was NOT disappointed. The reviews were good and the restaurant lived up to its press. The waiter was attentive, friendly and helpful, knowledgable but not pushy. He knew his wine and presented the specials and the whole place just perfectly. We chose an inexpensive wine which turned out to be perfect, but you could have spent £64 on a bottle alone! The special starter, king prawns on spinach with bechamel & gruyere was divine, and my minted rack of lamb was pinkish, how I asked for it, and oh-so-tender! The dessert was perfect, the whole evening was perfect. I will be going back, and if you haven't been yet, I urge you to go soon!
