Tuesday, August 16, 2011 - The latest branch isn't the warmest of places - a little hard-edged and fast foody. But the sushi is sweet and fresh, the gyoza hand-made daily; there are regularly changing selections of ippin ryori (Japanese small plates) and a good selection of sake, shochu, wines and whiskies. The tonkatsu? Pretty, pretty good. It may not be quite up there with Maisen but it's as good as you'll get in London, and the fruity curry sauce is a winner. Factor in a commitment to sustainability and this is a terrific addition to an underserved neighbourhood. I'm going back at lunchtime for the best-selling katsu sandwich.

We arrived at about 20:45 and sat down and were almost immediately told that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes despite the fact that the web site shows a closing time of 22:00.

When we ordered drinks my partner's beer was filled well below the measuring line in the glass.

I had the pork katsu curry and the pork was good as was the rice but the bowl and sauce were not very warm.

While I was paying at 21:25 a man came in to order food but was told that the kitchen was closed.

Had a fantastic chicken katsu curry lunch from Tsuru's new Mansion House restaurant. Smelt and tasted just like they do in Japan! Will be going back soon to try their sushi bento boxes and sides. Was impressed to see that they have authentic Japanese dishes like hijiki seaweed salad and korokke. Lovely staff too - so nice to get service with a smile. Very happy to now have a high quality Japanese place so close to my office.

Had lunch there today, it still has a just opened feel (staff finding their footings - working out how the tills work etc). Not so the Chef, who clearly knew exactly what he was doing.

Ingredients of a noticeably higher quality than the near-by Japanese Canteen yet prices comparable - i.e. better value. + Good to see that the Pork is billed as 'outdoor reared'!

Condiments overpriced.

Interesting looking evening promotion until 18.03.11

Overall v.good, if you've eaten at Japanese Canteen (as lots have) you should give this place a try.
