Our first visit to this restaurant - and we were very impressed. Excellent food well-presented with attentive service. A little slow, perhaps, but the ambience and style is such that this is a place to relax over your food rather than hurry it. We'll certainly be returning.

New-ish restaurant in Whetstone.

First impressions were very good: it is smart, stylish, and clean (the toilets were the best kept of any 'normal' restaurant this reviewer has ever seen). The waiting staff were very friendly, as the name of the restaurant states.

However. The service was inordinately slow. Ten minutes for the menu, 45 minutes for the starter to arrive after ordering. 20 minutes for an extra drink to arrive. After one and a half hours, we gave up on the mains ever arriving and asked for the bill.

This was the worst part. The surly manager charged us for everything, including the food that hadn't arrived yet. When queried, he took 20% off. In a not very good mood by now, we left the money for what we had consumed and left feeling very angry.

If there is a problem with the kitchen being slow then good customer relations would be to inform the customers and perhaps offer them a free complementary drink. Charging customers for food they haven't even consumed is not how to do it. It wasn't just us: other customers left without ordering anything, after having been warned of the delays by other frustrated diners.

As for the food: it's a bit hard to judge on just the starters: fish cakes were generously portioned but bland, the ribs were good quality cuts of meat (no fat or gristle) but again were bland.

Needless to say, we will never return. It is not so friendly Thai, it seems.

We went to this restaurant on a cold wet Saturday night in December. The welcome was warm, the food very good and the owner even sent us away with an early Christmas present of a little Thai brooch.

We will definitely be back and would recommend it to our friends.

First time I tried takeaway from this place. Also the last. Food was terrible. Fish cakes were greasy, sesame prawn toast was also greasy and had been placed from the hot oil straight into a polystyrene container causing it to melt. This just shows they don't care. And they are massively overpriced for what you get

Red chicken curry and panang curry were overly sweet, were more like desserts.

Could hardly distinguish between the two curries they were so bland. As far away from an authentic thai curry as its possible to get.

Sorry, hate to give a bad review, but raise your standards please, or change your chef, or management.

I'm a lover of good food and especially Thai food. I was really happy to have discovered a new restaurant to add to my list of favourite haunts.

'Friendly Thai'..... Wow - I loved it and highly recommend it.

A friend of mine has been there a couple of times and suggested that we'd go there on Friday night.

I'm not normally a lover of Thai fish cakes but 'Friendly Thai's one were the best I've had.

We also shared a coconut based soup with prawns - It was really tasty, full of flavour and made your taste buds tingle with spice - yum.

We also had the Pad Sauce Ma Kaam - Tofu with cashew nuts, crispy garlic and with a sweet tamarind sauce. It was sweet, sticky and delicious.

The best dish by far was the 'Fried Battered Squid' seasoned with Chilli, Salt and Pepper - OMG - I can't wait to go back and have it again and hopefully experiment a bit and try out some other dishes that I haven't tried.

I'm thinking that I'm going to be a regular there :)

Service, quality and decor - All top rate too.

I couldn't fault it and and I'd like to tell lots of my friends but am worried that it might get too busy :)
