I recently went to La Barca with my Fiance for a special meal. The service was great and i must say the food was even better. It was worth every penny!

This a great place to go if you are looking for a traditional italian. I've been a few times over the years and each time it fails to disappoint: There is an extensive choice on the food menu, great and deep wine list and the service is friendly. The spaghetti and lobster dish in a delicate tomato sauce comes highly recommended. This is the place you dine at to avoid the gentrified italian chains dotted around the capital and instead enjoy a top italian culinary experience. Definite must!

I went last night to La Barca, and I had a quite disappointing experience. The service was very friendly, but the food was way too pricey, for not thrilling but just acceptable food.

The quality of the food was just average, and nothing could justify the price of the meal. I would reccomend this restaurant just for the service, but absolutely not if you are looking for a good Italian restaurant.

Opinions seem to be divided about this restaurant, and I would tend to agree with the less enthusiastic reviews. Four of us ate at La Barca yesterday evening, and we got the impression that there are two distinct 'classes' of clients, the regulars, who were treated like valued customers and old friends, and the rest of us, who weren't! Service was SO SLOW - glad we weren't in a hurry - and rather chaotic, at one point two waiters were literally having a tug of war with a trolley! They constantly shouted to each other in Italian - it was quite amusing at first but got irritating after a while. It was cramped and noisy, and the tables were too close together.

Our order was taken by an unsmiling waiter, who didn't waste time in small talk and seemed totally disinterested. The wine list was extensive but apart from the house wine at £14.95 a bottle, the cheapest was over £20 and most wines a lot more than that. No wine recommendations were made and we had the house white, which was fine, albeit dumped unceremoniously in an ice bucket which was strategically placed between the tables so that neither I nor the person on the next table could get out! We weren't shown the bottle and no-one came to pour it for us.

The food was on the whole good, especially the starters. My husband's main meal was tepid, he actually doesn't mind cold food but I would have sent it back. The selection of vegetables was a bit pathetic, a few green beans and carrots and a couple of portions of potato, but my husband's mixed salad was quite substantial. No-one came to ask if the food was OK. The girl who brought the bill was quite friendly but the waiters on the whole were surly and indifferent, and I agree with another reviewer who said that it was rather odd, as if they really didn't want us there.

The bill for four of us, for two courses, came to over £200, and while one expects to pay a bit over the odds in a centrally located London restaurant, we thought this was rather expensive, given the poor service and the rather strange atmosphere. Unlikely to go there again - there are several good restauarants in that area which are much better value for money.

I took my girlfriend to La Barca last night for dinner, we live on Lower Marsh and had been wanting to pop in for a while. Well, we weren't disappointed. Though the menu is a little pricey the range is fantastic and our meals were absolutely delicious. The staff were also very warm and polite, excellent service.

Will definitely be eating at La Barca again.

This was probably our fourth visit to La Barca in the last 2 years – like the previous occasions this was a culinary treat. Not only is the food first rate, our favourite dishes being truffle risotto and the plentiful seafood menu, the waiters are always extremely warm and friendly. This is certainly our favourite traditional Italian restaurant in the capital. Give it a go, if this is what you are looking for. Hope you love it as much as us.

Before easter my partner and i went to this lovely restaurant for dinner. we had the soup of the day which contained chickpeas which was delicious but what impressed me and my partner the most was the spaghetti barca, i have eaten a lot of foods containing seafood in various restaurant but none have compared to this one i would definitely come back for more. If anyone is looking to eat fresh and amazing food i would definitely recommend la barca. Very pleasant.

It's important to say from the outset, this restaurant is not cheap. However the food and service are first class. I was a guest, so I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I'd go back for a birthday or wedding anniversary -if I was very well off, I might even go regularly.

I've been twice, so it's not a one-off impression. Ultimately you get what you pay for and this restaurant is a serious cut above the average.
