The Frontline Club
your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne
Why is the cuisine for Frontline described as Middle Eastern? It serves perfectly prepared, unpretentious seasonal British food along with decently priced fine wine (a rare find in London) and I highly recommend it.
Our starters were the best of British with some inventive twists. Both the potted duck with spiced pickled damsons and the rare wild pigeon breasts with Cumberland sauce were superb.
The Aussie waitress certainly knew her Alsace from her Nebbilio and did a masterful job of wine matching our meal. The NZ Matakana Pinot Gris cut through a buttery perfectly cooked plaice and a superb Lemelson Pinot Noir from Oregon set off a citrussy pork chop.
She told me that Malcolm Gluck of Superplonk fame is putting together a greatly extended wine list and that Frontline will never mark up a bottle by more than £10. I thought the food was good value but great wines at these prices is outstanding value.

I shelled out £40 and left feeling hungry after dinner! Don't get me wrong, this is a great restaurant. The food I had was excellent in quality and the way it was prepared, the duck was well cooked and I had a taste of the fish of the day which was also excellent. The level of service was also second to none and the staff were friendly & knowledgeable.
Most uniquely, this restaurant has photographs displayed of people living in the frontline of war. The photos are taken by professional photographers and they captured me. As I admired each and every single one of them, there was a story to learn about.
Its location is very near St Mary's Hospital, Paddington Station or Edgware road so if you work or live around here its a good place to go.
My only gripe is that the food is way overpriced, with starters around £7, Mains at £15-20 and dessert another £6. Its definitely not value for money. Worth a visit, but only if you are flushed with cash. I'm a working professional and I still find it pricey! For me, I had to get a burger from the kebab shop cause the portions were too small. Defeats the purpose of having dinner if you ask me!

This is a great dinning room. The food is good and well priced and the service unobtrusive but attentive. However, the real standout is the fair wine policy. The list is impressive in its selection and very fair in its pricing. It makes you depressed when you realise how much other establishments make on opening a bottle. Try this place and reward them on their fair policy, because I’d be shocked if you don’t have a great night.

Rubharb Fool contained goat curd - disgusting, mushroom pie was cold, bacon appeared on the vegetarian dish and to cap it all off sea bream looked like sardines! Oooh! If it wasnt for the great pictures we would of walked...such a disapointment after reading the reviews on this site

As a Sommelier working in 5 star fine dining, my objective when looking for a place to eat out is to find a restaurant that is not too fussy, but possesses a decent wine list and (I am sorry but I am a sommelier) decent glassware, classic commonsense service and great food with decent portions so that I can relax and enjoy the time off.
Imagine my surprise when I saw the wine list at frontline. In just 30 or so wines this list is complete, meaning there are no gaps and everyone can find a wine that suits them.
The mark ups, hang on a minute, what mark ups?!! The Krug is cheaper to buy here then what you would pay for at tesco!!
GO HERE! - even if it's just for a glass of wine... especially if it's for a glass of wine! Would you like a sommelier tip? Ask for the very rare 'Wilson Riesling 2004' - a trophy winner in the IWC and a wine you cannot find anywhere..!
See you down there for a glass of Krug....

I went to The Frontline for Sunday Lunch as they are doing a £16 for three courses which is really good value. The lunch was great but what really made it exceptional was the "fair wine" policy which makes some really great wines affordable for mere mortals. The Amarone, as recommended by the waiter was absolutly delicious. And the fact that Alan Rickman was at the next table made for a very pleasant few hours!

Well, I was amazed. It looked the sort of place that budget travellers would be frowned upon till we looked at the menu. Simply outstanding prices for somewhere in the Capital.
It looked full, but my sister and I ventured in, expecting to be told that there was no space, but we were asked to wait and they set up a table just for us. The staff were friendly and attentive, the decor is subtle with unobtrusive lighting and lots of interesting pictures. The menu is small, but that still didn't help with the decision making on what to have as everything looked delicious.
My sister eventually decided on the mussels for a starter and I had the leek and potato soup. We were both left impressed with that and wondered whether the main courses we had chosen would be up to the standard already set, but when it arrived, the fish pie for her and parsnip, sage and onion torte for me were simply mouthwatering. We wondered whether we would fit dessert in, but we just couldn't resist it. Sis had the Apple and plumb crumble and I decided pear sorbet was just the thing to finish off. We were right, and it was clean plates all round.
I would definitely reccommend anyone to come here. Friendly staff, good atmosphere, no music to set the mood, just the sound of people talking, which lends a friendly, convivial feel but won't drown out your conversation if you come with company, and the food was outstanding, well presented and definitely not overpriced for what you get.
All I can say is that I will be going back again in the future. Definitely a place to be revisited.
