I agree with the previous reviewer - Red Pepper serves fabulous fresh italian food using good quality fresh ingredients to make delicious and not overly complicated or fussy dishes. We've been going regularly for years and have never had a bad - or even mediocre - meal there!

The only negative would be - try to get a table upstairs - as it feels a bit basement-y below.

absolutley fabolous resturant the flavours from italy itself!!! the small resturant is intimate but great for a girls sex in the city evening or a romantic dinner with the small round tables and candle light dinners!!! the food is beyond amazing the portions are huge fresh and served piping hot!!!

The staff are italian and ever so friendly i have been going for 3 years and will not eat pizza any where else in london!!!! the price is so cheap and the quality is the best!!!

Please try the dessert (tiramisu) its TO DIE FOR!!!!!!

We revisited Red Pepper, after several years for a small celebration to taste its original wood fired pizzas and great Italian specialities. We were bitterly disappointed. Its clientele seems to have slowly drained away from its glory days when it was part of the "coloured veg empire". We were shown to a tiny table on the ground floor, as the basement was already totally empty, even quite early in the evening.

The pizza, although still thin crust was now just the kind you get from any other mediocre pizza chain. The taste and originality were all gone, it was soft and there was no puffy, sometimes burnt dough edge. The pasta was just a plate of linguini with a lot of small empty shells and we all remarked at how you needed to have a magnifying glass to find the "vongole". We counted just 3; and all of them were swimming in an oily residue, devoid of taste, other than heaps of spicy chillies that was being used to mask the blandness of the sauce. Both portions were now smaller than before.

Our dessert of the Fogattino tart although crispy was smothered with an unnecessarily tangy citrus sauce that totally destroyed the balance of this dish.

Red Pepper always had premium prices for providing good quality food and wine. At its current state it is unjustifiably overpriced and its portions are not good value for money.

Unlike most Italian restaurants, none of the staff could bring themselves to smile while serving and looked miserable. They did not even bother to offer us any ground Parmigiano for the spaghetti and we had to specifically ask for it. The service was borderline to acceptable. Later on we understood why. When another table was paying their bill, they asked if the staff did receive the included the "optional" service charge, automatically applied. They did not. When our turn came to pay, we noticed the bill did not even have the subtotal but only the sum after the service charge. When we politely enquired why, and asked to see the amounts separately we were told that it was the till's fault. When we explained we were returning customers, we were told by the owner that she had not seen us before and if we didn't like it, we should "take our custom elsewhere and not come back" !!

It is a sad picture to see a once nice place in such terminal decline having to resort to such sharp practices against its own staff as well as treating its customers with such disdain and arrogance. The only surprising aspect about it now is the way it despises its customers. The prices are still at a premium, only now there is no justification for them because the quality and ambience are long gone. We will not return and will not recommend it to others.
