They say history can’t repeat itself but they had not been back to Red Pepper Restaurant ! I did after a long absence and was amazed to see the original management team from yesteryears back in action. Even the kitchen was headed with one of the original apprentices ! Friendly professional service with exceptional food . A most pleasant dining experience JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS. Red Pepper has my vote for the best neighbourhood value for money restaurant of the decade.

I agree with the previous review. We went to RP last night. Although quiet for a Monday, there was still a friendly buzz. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pizzas (we had diavolo and calzone) were top notch, as was everything else we had. I will be going again next time I am in London on business. Very handy from the tube too.

I had stopped going to Red Pepper two years ago because I found the food and service had deteriorated. Recently I decided to try it again and I was very nicely surprised to find the food was very good and the service very friendly. I am surprised at the negative comments as I would definitely recommend it for a good casual night out.

It used to be my local - eating there very, very often.

Just came back from the long stay abroad and cannot recognise the place.

Food not so special at all and service non existent!

Dear Red Pepper - if you want to survive bring Gianni and his team back!

I used to go there twice a month, either take away or sit-in, and thought myself lucky to have such a good and affordable Italian in the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, portions became smaller and smaller and prices higher and higher in the last few months. The food is still good but value for money is not great anymore. What a shame!

Having eaten at the Red Pepper last Friday night, I have to say the food is exquisite and the service fantastic.

It was the first time I've eated there, but the fact that there wasnt ever an empty table for more than a few moments, and there were people who hadnt booked waiting for tables on the off chance speaks volumes.

The pizzas were supreme and excellent value for money. Having shared a pizza as a starter, and had the grilled sole (special for the night) as a main, I can say that these were both delicious. The pizza was definately better than any I've ever had at pizza express or else where.

And having shared a selection of the deserts I can say that you really have to leave room for at least one! The tiramisu was amazing!

As you can see, I only have good things to say about this place, so I'm a bit confused by some of the comments on this page. I would definately have to give the Red Pepper 10 out of 10, no question!

I've had a couple of nice meals at Red Pepper in the past, but found that the food and service have both deteriorated. I won't be going back! My clam spaghetti was oily and light on the clams, but at least there was pasta on my plate. My friend's ragu pasta (for £11) was the size of a tiny starter, but the waiter told us that was the normal size for that dish.

The service was even worse than the food. Our waiter was condescending and rude - about the fact we didn't have a starter and didn't order expensive wine. And they tried to charge us for wine at double the price, with no apology for their mistake.

There's a much better - and more reasonably priced - pizza and pasta place on Castellan Road which has cheery staff without attitude, and I'll be going there in future.

I was not too impressed with this place. It's rather noisy and the topping on the pizzas can best be describred as "scarce".
