First off, don't be put off by the location or the look of the pub, both inside and out. The Chequers is a lovely place to eat, especially on a Sunday, as the roast dinner is delicious. They serve food up until 7pm on most days and the menu is reasonably priced (roast dinner is £7 a head and is always fresh). They have a Thai kitchen as well as British during the week and my two favourites are the vegetarian pad thai and the vegetarian Thai green curry with coconut rice, both costing around £5-6 each. The British menu is mainly for non-veggies as it consists of bangers and mash, lamb shank, burger and chips, scampi and chips and all the usual other favourites. The food is prepared properly and looks good and the ingredients are fresh, and they have no excuse considering the location is Walthamstow Market! They only have the one waitress, "Kitty", who is extremely welcoming, pleasant and polite. I have been going there for about 4 years and I am yet to be disappointed with either the food or the service. They also do a good guiness, which can often be hard to find. I highly recommend a visit to The Chequers.
