I disagree with this comment. Maharani gave me the finest Indian I have ever had in my whole Indian dinning experience.

The food rating refers to the chutneys that came with the popadums, the only redeeming feature of the meal besides the Cobra beer which was reasonably priced. The lamb chops were horrible. The various meat dishes we had seemed to contain the same generic sauce regardless of the description on the menu. How this place stays in business at these prices, £12-£13 for the mains, I don't know, other than unfortunate souls like myself who come in to give it a try and swear never again. There are much better and cheaper indian (this place is Bangledeshi) restaurants in the area

Whenever Im on the west side of london - maharani is the venue of choice...from the subtle home made sauces - (beetroot sauce with papodams) - to the well cooked lamb chops. All the currys are well flavoured and service is impeccable. Now becoming a regular for my oversea clients - well recommended.

My husband and I live near Soho and are always looking for a good Indian restaurant in the neighborhood. We went to Maharani last Friday night to finally see if we had found our Indian place but we were disappointed.

The atmosphere is nice (white table cloths) and modern, but the food was only ok and every dish was overpriced by a couple of quid. Traditional curry items such as madras', balti's and korma's are only available in an all in one meal option (curry, rice, and veg) for £12-13 (which isn't an option if you want to share) and other mains at least £8 (veg at least £5). Our lamb dish was nice but our chicken was too sweet (tasted like tomato concentrate sweetened up). The worst part though was that if you wanted poppadums and chutneys it was £2 per person - ridiculous.

Maharani is trying to be posh but the food doesn't justify the price.
