Barcelona Tapas Bar Y Restaurante (Dulwich)

After returning from a lovely short break from Barcelona ,we wanted to bring up the good memories here. We weren't dissapointed! The range and the presence of the foods, and tapases were amazing, not to mention their tatse. The friendly staff recommended great red wines that were matching the food perfectly. After the lovely night, we left with the feeling, that Spain , and it's cuisine, isn't that far away from here, and we defiantly come again ...

I went to this restaurant last weekend and after eating at various tapas places around London, I have to say I was a little disappointed. The service was very random from the start, lack of understanding, and although they were pleasant enough there was a sense of chaos amongst the staff. We were originally seated under a giant fluorescent light, away from everyone else, despite numerous empty tables and having booked four days early, and when we asked to move we had to wait to speak to the manager. The food portions were tiny and we left hungry.

Totally surprised at some of the reviews I've read on here - do they actually know what they're talking about? Being Spanish myself I am very picky about the so called "Authentic" Spainish restaurants I frequent, I have found most of them to be so "Un-authentic" it is laughable. I have eaten in the city branches of Barcelona's and on visiting friends who lived locally, decided to try the Dulwich branch. As always I was not disappointed. The food was excellent and as we went for a set menu, turned out to be far too much for 4 people to eat and therefore excellent value for money (doggy bags were provided for all the uneaten paella which tasted superb the next day for lunch). The wine selection is as always, outstanding giving a wide choice of wines to choose from at affordable prices, and in many cases you wouldnt be able to get hold of these wines outside of Spain itself (I've tried) - Cheers to the wine sourcer for some fantastic choices!!
The service was efficient and the food and drinks were accompanied by smiles and friendly banter (something seriously lacking in a lot of places) - I felt like I was back home in Spain so can only applaud the owners of the Barcelona group for their good work in yet another of their establishments.

Overpriced, poor quality. Having spent over £70 we left hungry. We did have an excellent bottle of wine priced at £12.95( available in the supermarket at £3.95!). Service was fine but then they were almost empty. Pork dish rubbery. The plate of hams at £9.95 - I could have bought better quality at Lidl! It was dried up and a small portion. Having just got back from Barcelona we were v disappointed. Would not recommend.

Absolutely appalling restaurant-hurried service, all food arriving at once, most tasteless, some tinned and others (patatas bravas) smothered in bottled tomato sauce, kebabs so salty it was impossible to differentiate the lamb, chicken and pork from each other. Horrible canned music, extremely expensive for such poor quality and the 'optional' gratuity already included in total. When I asked for it to be removed, a torrent of invective and the assertion that I was the only one ever to have complained!! Never, never again!

Surprised! I was not expecting great things after reading the previous reviews. I attended this restaurant for one of my friends' birthday. There was a fairly large group of us and we had opted for their set menus (notoriously poorer quality in a lot of other establishments). I loved the food!! I've tried a lot of Spanish food, here in the UK as well as in Spain, and I have to say the food at Barcelona Tapas was pretty authentic. The waiting staff did a good job, they were attentive and smiled a lot. The manager was little hard to understand but he was very accommodating and helpful. It's not a highly polished and modern restaurant, may not be to everyone's liking but I felt very comfortable here and that's important to me. None of my friends had any complaints either...guess we were lucky?....I'll let you know for sure when I next go back, which I intend to do for some Christmas celebrating (if not before!) All in all, it was a very nice evening and I would (and have) recommend this place.

I happened to go to Barcelona Restaurant in Dulwich on Valentine’s evening with my boyfriend. It was the first and the last time, as we both absolutely regretted that decision.
We arrived around 9pm having booked our table in advance. We were shown to our table and waited around 10 minutes before we managed to catch one of the waiters’ attention and order our drinks. These arrived fairly quickly. We then ordered our food chosen from a set Valentine’s menu, which looked pretty good. Another 10 minutes passed and one of the waiters put a basket of bread on our table. It was such a quick and quiet act that we did not really notice that. Another 30 minutes passed - in total we had been there for 50 minutes by then - and we realised the time. I asked one of the waiters about our food and he said he would check on that and bring the main course...we had not even had starters yet! After a short while one of the staff came over to our table to say that our order had gone missing and the food would be ready soon. I must admit that they were not too apologetic considering the fact that we had been sitting there and waiting for about and hour and at this point we were no longer interested in dining at this restaurant. We decided to leave.
I understand that the restaurant was busy that evening and I did not expected a great quality food or an excellent service but what I experienced that night was a far cry from even satisfactory. Unfortunately I am not able to comment on their food as I never got to taste it (and surely never will!) but the service we received was at least bad. Out of seven members of staff serving that night not even one noticed that our table had not been attended to for an hour. How bad is that? The restaurant was not really full at all, and everyone else had eaten or was eating...except us.
Oh, I should say thank you for the FREE glass of wine and bottle of water, although we had insisted on paying for it when we left. I suppose that was a little Valentine make–up gift from Barcelona to compensate for spoiling our evening.
