Quite possibly one of the worst pub experiences I have had. After booking a group of 12 for a lunch at this place we were told rudely on arrival (on time) that if all our group weren't here then we would lose the table. The food was below 2nd rate and the main courses were generally lukewarm to cold, without exception, when the kitchen was only 5m across the floor. Hardly enough sides of peas and bubble & squeak were provided for our group. And the price for all this was an exorbitent £35 per person! Very disappointing.

The food is lovely but the service and the organisation is terrible. after booking a table we were told to wait in the bar for our table then told our table was given away. After we finally sat down they rushed us to finish and refused to serve us any more port. We normally spend £300 -£350 quid in there (group of 6) and they treat us like rubbish.

Rushed through by staff. Very unpleasant. Told to finish after meal drink at bar. Food undercooked. No spots at all in spotted dick - not one! No response to request for details of beer available. Get what you're given. Main course delivered at same time as finishing starter. Constantly told to hurry up. Quite the worst dining experience in London in 15 years. On leaving £10 tip told this wasn't enough! Won't be going again under any circumstances.

Unfortunately this place has lost some of the charm that in years gone by . Good atmosphere and not bad value however if this place is busy expect rude service, forgotten side orders, well done steaks rare, cloudy bitter and pressure to get you from the table asap. Shame really because for the sake of getting sittings in it means they won't get repeat customers.

I spent 30 years in the City and lunched regularly at Simpsons. I barely recognize it from some of the comments I have read. I have never had a bad meal there, the service is first rate and Sheila always looked after me. The indignant comment that some stranger shared their table is typical of people who do not know the place. I have done so on many occasions and my fellow diner did not remain a stranger for long. If you don't like the place best try somewhere else and leave it to those of us who love the place and its quirkiness.

I've been going to Simpson's Tavern since 1987... Now that I don't live in London I don't get back as much any more... but when I do its like coming home... The service remains abysmal, the noise and heat unbearable, the food fabulous, and the wine should only be chosen by those not faint of heart... I know this sounds like a dreadful review, but honestly its not... For school day feasts and to know that old london is still alive, Simpson's is the only place... though I should add, city suits are the dress of the day
