We had lunch at Mehek and it ended up being a terrible experience. After waiting for 10min to be served as we were the only early lunch customers in the restaurant, the quality of the food itself was very poor. The okra was old and half-cooked; the malay kofta was also old and soggy; and the aloo was pretty average. Upon enquiring as to why the food was of cooked in this way and of such quality, we were adviced that it was how people like it! we were rather surprised as you will never find in India half-cooked vegetables being served and soggy paneer. The waiter shouted back as a response that this was not India, so customers like it as it was. I was shocked that Londoners were classified by this waiter as people with no taste. On top, the bill for 3 starters, some bread and rice, and 2 soft drinks was close to £40. We were given no discount, neither were we offered anyrthing else, even though we did not eat any of the dishes after tasting them. Considering the prices, the restaurant offers zero food quality and the staff are not very helpful at all!

Food was good and evening spoilt by staff taking liberties - placing unordered lagers on the table and removing those that were only 1/2 smooth. Dishonest and we'll never go back.

Dear oh dear, wish I had seen some of the reviews before going here last night. Without question the worst and most expensive curry I have had, ever.

All the food was bland and tasteless. My butter chicken had clearly not been cooked in the sauce with the meat clearly having holes in it where it had been cooked on a skewer and then dumped in the sauce at the end. Sides of lentils and spinach were okay but not worth £5 a pop. My chicken dish when added to the rice and lentils came in at over £20.

Service was also poor (with the exception of the barman), and a tip to the waiter, when taking an order try looking at the customer and not over our heads at everyone else.

We had a nice bottle of Rioja but again at over £25 not cheap for what it was.

Oversll a really poor place that I will not be returning to, I doubt they will care as somehow the place was packed.

I had a meal in Mehek restaurant on Thursday 13 May 2010 after seeing the award given to it by British Curry Guide as being one of the ten best restaurants of the UK. I was totally disappointed by the quality of food and service provided by above restaurant. It was total waste of my money. Moreover, my friend and me agreed that apart from nice deco there is nothing to be appreciative about it. Having seen the award by the British Curry Guide both of us went there with high hopes as we work in the city very near to the restaurant. It was total diaster as far as our expectation was concern. We can't believe how a restaurant of that standard could be given an award as the best ten by British Curry Award. It really reflects on the award giving organization's reputation who must be influenced by other dubious means which helped ths restaurant to gain the above award!

I would not recommend anyone to visit this restaurant at all.

I know this place very well. It's a tidy place with a good atmosphere but I won't eat in there any more. The dishes are over presented and a complete rip off. I was expected to pay £16.80 for the Chef's Special dish which was 4 grilled prawns with a dipping sauce, some rice and old salad. All of the other dishes were bland and the chicken was tough. They're nice enough people there but complacent and frankly I consider it dishonest to be trying to sell food that doesn't stand up to the price tag.

Food gets a 2 because I have had worse on Brick Lane so didn't think a zero was appropriate.

Service gets a 2 because one of the waiters was quite rude to a colleague of mine and also didn't clear the table between starter and main course.

Atmosphere gets a 6 because it's quite an attractive place inside and does have a good, abeit deceptive vibe about it.

Value for money gets a zero - I tried for a 1 but there just isn't anything to credit the place on in this category.

My work colleagues and I had lunch here as we all like Indian food and are always keen to try somewhere new. The food was all very strange and unlike anything I've had in any Indian restaurant, and believe me I've tried loads from traditional to modern, in this country and in India. The curries were either very bland or too spicy and the chicken shashlick and vegetables had a horrible taste. The service was fine, the place itself was clean and modern but I could not recommend the food.

if you like a good curry and friendly atmosphere do NOT go here. me and my partner are big curry fans and already have a favourite in our area but i came to his restaurant after reading reviews claiming this is the place to go. I felt instantly uncomfortable from the appauling service and after asking for a goa curry (hot) i was grumbled at and then given a dish full of white pepper they basicially took the mick out of my request. I competely understand some chefs find that 'offensive' but to be given a dish that bad was just beyond. I love spice it wasnt that chillis would of been fine but to put white pepper in my meal like that just took the mick ! Please i urge you these guys only take care of big names or people with dispoable income ie expenses paid. Its soooo not worth it.

We had a great lunch here, with some excellent food. Avoid the regular curry menu and go for the starters and the specialities. The haash tikka starter of duck breast was succulent and delicately spiced. For main I tried the 'signature dish' of ak-bari lamb shank, and it definitely lived up to expectations; very tender with the right amount of flavour.

The service was on the brusque side of efficient - but not at all unfriendly.

In summary, great food and good value for money.
