The Gunmakers

Headed down to The Gunmakers, curious since it has recently been taken over by a noted beer-enthusiast. The beer, as expected was fantastic. They had some unusual, but universally fresh and well-kept beers on tap - Mad Goose, Old Engine Oil etc.
The food, however, was a very happy surprise. We didn't know what to expect even though the menu looked good. Rabbit was delicious, succulent and served in great sauce. Steak sandwich was large, tasty and well cooked, while the cod and chips came sizzling in a great batter - it can be such a hard thing to get right, but here, they nailed it.
Overall, well worth a tip, the food is good value, well sourced and cooked brilliantly. It's a high quality version of pub grub, with non of the faux-sophistication you get with so many self-proclaimed gasto pubs. Well worth a visit.
