Rarely, if ever, have I eaten anything as revolting as the Chicken Caesar salad from Earl of Sandwich.

Everyone expects a Caesar dressing to be garlicky but GOOD GRIEF. Everyone also expects a dressing to be liquid, but this one approximated the consistency of hummus - presumably to do with the absurd amount of raw garlic contained therein.

One might also anticipated a modicum of crunch from a crouton. Not here. These were chewier than King Chewbacca from the Planet of Chewits.

Thankfully, the salad leaves reasonably closely approximately salad leaves, while the chicken appeared likely to be authentic meat. So if a plain chicken salad drier than Gandi's flip-flops is what you fancy, you'd be well catered for here.

You might ask why one would order a salad from a place called Earl of SANDWICH? Well, I'll tell you. A couple of weeks back I ordered the The Original 1762 sandwich. This comprises, quoting from the website, Freshly Roasted Beef, Cheddar Cheese & Creamy Horseradish Sauce. Freshly roasted?! Weird.

Anyhow... so what arrived was a warm mayonnaise sandwich. In short, it freaking minged. It minged more than a mung bean eaten during the Ming dynasty.

Very nice but £4.75 for a sandwich? You can do better elsewhere!

Average at best. Average ingredients and very average bread, not a combination worthy of 'the worlds best sandwich' claim.

Verdict? Avoid. Its all mouth and no trousers. There are much better sandwiches in the immediate area.

Just a month after the Earl opened his first UK shop and the prices are increased to £4.75 for the majority of the hot sandwiches. Greedy Earl!

Although it is a very good sandwich the £4.75 price is a little too much based on the size.

Also the 3 queue system in the shop is not managed well and causes all sorts of confusion between 12-2pm!

Agreed - just had my first sandwich here and being hot helps! Also service fast and helpful. Just hoping it stays that way as they taste success. Ingredients fresh and sandwich well made and packed. Thumbs up!

Been in twice now - in 3 days. Arrived to a dreaded queue way out of the door and debated hanging around [being a very impatient person] but was assured by a charming waitress that it would be 5 mins to get my 'freshly made hot sandwich'.

I went for the Original 1762 - roast beef , cheddar and horseradish, it was a belter AND it was ready in under 5 mins. Being pedantic I timed it .

Next visit I had a Chicken Caesar Salad it was a huge portion and tasty- plenty of chicken unlike the competition.

Great value and quality, I am a fan of Pret but this is better.
