La Petite Auberge

Four of us had a fantastic meal here on Saturday. Tables are like gold-dust so we got there a little early and had a glass of wine down by the bar. True to their word the staff got us a downstairs table by the window. I ordered the duck salad to start, I was brought a lardon salad, I pointed this out to the waiter and he good-naturedly brought me a replacement. No hassle. The salad was very good. My compannions had mussels or escargots. Everything was good, simple, nicely presented. I then had a steak au poivre, two of our group had the steak Diane and one had the quails, which I wish I'd had, cooked in honey and pine kernels. Delicious. Everything was delicious actually. The service was smart and friendly, the prices are exceptionally reasonable. We drank too much, probably, but the Viognier and Cahors went down very easily. This place is a gem and it's deservedly busy, why can't every neighbourhood have a restaurant like this?

Oh my, do I love La Petit Auberge.
I have been going there since before this millennia, probably once every few months, and after about 2 years off (due to moving away then back to London) went again.
I was surprised to find that the place had hardly changed and still presented lovely full, rich food that was almost as good as traditional French cooking.
In fact, I think I may just book a table there for the weekend. :)

One of the worst 'French' restaurants I have experienced. Flavourless, luke-warm seafood bisque, unremarkable salad (by far bet part of the meal), and, finally, trying to pass off a chicken leg as rabbit! One leg was indeed a rather bland bit of rabbit, while the other was unmistakably chicken. When I pointed out the different bone shapes to the (spanish) waiter, he was incredulous and suggested I talk to the chef. However, the waiter reemerged from the kitchen stating that he would take the plate off the bill. (I must admit that from the start, when they placed a basket of barely warm, half cooked bread rolls on the table, I was probably a bit critical of all to come.)

I have been to La Petite Auberge twice and will go back again, as I really enjoyed it both times. The first time was in March 06 and there was nothing to complain about (which is why I am surprised by the reviews I can see here). The second time was last Saturday and I had the mussles à la Provençale, and then one of their lovely, nicely cooked steaks. My boyfriend had the fish soup, really tasty, then he had the duck saussages with mash, and that was simply delicious. As a French person living in London, I think La Petite Auberge is simply charming, good value for money and very enjoyable every time !

Discovered this restaurant late Feb and have been 3 times since. Absolutely excellent - if they keep it up will go again and again even though it takes us an hour to get there.

I have been to this restaurant three times and I was satisfied with the quality of the food and the value for money all times. I agree that they could substitute the bread rolls with some nice French bread..however other than that i cannot complain about anything with respect to the food. Portions were adequate and the food was very tasty.
The only complaint is that one time we were seated upstairs and the heating was far too high.

This was a big disappointment. The service was the worst service I have ever experienced in London. It took two requests and 50 minutes to get the drinks, 1.15 minutes to get the appetizer and 1.50 min to get the main course.
Our assigned waiter was arrogant and slow, eventually a different waiter felt so uncomfortable about the service that he got our drinks.
The food was less the expected and not worth the price. Stay clear!

Went in unplanned on a Tuesday night. Service was very good, not rushed at all. Nice atmosphere.
All of our dishes were very nice and nice sized portions. The smoked fish plate didn't have an equal amount of the fishes listed but was still tasty. The bread item on the menu was a roll, albeit nice, but would it have been hard to have some tasty french bread?
We will be going back. Just a pity that the restaurant is all smoking. Still, not long to wait until that changes eh!
