La Petite Auberge is such a brilliant place. Great ambiance. We went there with my wife and a friend, the food and service both excellent, the portions were huge too. Three of us could not find a fault. We will definately go back. Well done.

Couple days ago went to this place, it was quite busy evening. I had a wonderful evening out with my partner, excellent service, very friendly waitresses all the time ready to help.Nice atmosphere, especially I liked mezzanine floor.I had a duck salad and rabbit casserole which was delicious, portions were generous and for good value. For sure would be back

Had been here a couple of times, several years ago and found it to be good. But maybe this was an off night (Monday night, maybe the regular chef takes a break). But to be fair, the tatty menus, with prices stuck on, rather hinted that some pride and care had gone from the place.

The service was OK, but a bit indifferent. A waitress was lighting candles and plonking them on tables without any interest or care, and you could see customers looking at each other with amused surprise about the general attitude.

But the food was the real disappointment. Not jaw-clenchingly awful, but not good. I had halibut with a potato and leek mash - one of the specials for the night. The halibut was overcooked and underseasoned. The mash was all right, but had little leek content. I then tried the chocolate and dark rum mousse. It was an OK chocolate mousse - couldn't for the life of me detect any rum - and the awful cream with it didn't do it any favours.

I wouldn't go back again on the strength of this showing. A shame, but there are other french restaurants in the immediate vicinity with more energy and self-respect still.
