I have to agree with other reviewers, this place is now truly awful.

Having not been for a few months we went in for Sunday lunch today. A year ago, on a sunny Sunday it would have been packed, but it was almost empty today and no wonder.

The ONLY thing on offer is grease laden cheese burgers and really unpleasant chips. If you're going to do just a couple of thing you need to do it really well, but both the burger and chips are done really badly. Everything is served on enamel plates, and forget about cutlery. I asked a rather unpleasant man at the bar (I think he was the new owners) if they did anything suitable for my three year old son. His curt reply was that he didn't know what three year olds eat!

The inside is now really scruffy. Some bright spark has simply hacked off the wallpaper to reveal old plaster. The once lively garden now looks sad and unkempt. There's a really sleazy feel to the place now with a very strange Blue Grass theme, but done really badly.

This is a far cry from the child friendly pub that served delicious food that we were used to. However, juding from the lack of customers, people are simply voting with their feet.

If you've looking for good food, a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, go somewhere else.

Unfortunately the May reviewer is right, a once great pub with good food/beer/wine and atmosphere is awful now.

It is still just serving burgers on foam plates! Murmurs of a kitchen reburb are no more. The outside has been left to decay and the inside is tacky. There are no staff, a long wait at the bar and not a smile in sight. In fact it's been very empty whenever i pass. Perhaps they will take a hint and up their efforts. Or just sell on to someone who cares.

Now the Rye has officially opened again and is serving in the kitchen inside as well as 'the Meatwagon' - all is good, the service is fast, the burgers delicious, staff polite and friendly and they are expanding their menu.

I think you just caught them on a bad night while they were in between opening up again.

Anyhow, I LOVE IT and will definitely be going back again for the 'best burgers in South London'!!!!!!

I have to say that after my experience on Friday May 20th i will not be going back any time soon Nor will I recommend it to anyone. What was once a fabulous pub with great food and friendly helpful staff has now become exactly the opposite. Staff behind the bar were incredulously rude and not helpful in the least, making even the simplest request (a slice of lemon please) seem as if you had just asked them for their first born. Given the fact they have only recently opened under new management one would think they would be welcoming patrons not chasing them away. The idea of the street food week to fill in the missing gap of no food/menu/kitchen failed miserably to produce anything other than hotdogs. On a Friday night?? Why would you not have had a hog roast at least?? How seriously sad and disappointing. Myself and many many other staff members from work will find a different pub to spend our hard earned money on.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Monday, July 11, 2011 - The real reason for my visit, however, was for one thing and one thing only, the Mushroom Swiss. Now, I am not ashamed to admit that I absolutely loved this when BK served a version and was overjoyed to find Yianni recreating a personal favourite. I was not disappointed, with his version containing all the hallmarks of that great meatwagon burger, just containing the addition of the umami rich mushrooms and sweet Swiss. Every bite reminded why I am so lucky to live within spitting distance of the new 'Meateasy'. I don't think I have ever eaten a burger faster.
