The Salt House

12 of us had a lovely meal on Sunday in the room upstairs. The Salt House doesn't fall short of its high standards : mouth-watering food (takes time but is worth waiting) and great service (our waiter was very helpful, so was the manager). Definitely be back with a bunch of friends next Sunday. Thank you very much!

I agree with Smith. The food is very average for the price and the service was just awful. The restuarant manageress (with a very morose attitude) was more interested in fiddling with her computer than attending to the patrons. The restaurant is just very badly managed which is a shame since it spoils the whole atmosphere in the restuarant.

It seems that the salt house is going downhill , food consistency is at a low, and the hot sunday roast is always cold, which is a pity. I suggest management get their finger out and sort it out.

I've had variable experiences at The Salt House - I've been there for Sunday roasts a couple of times in the last couple of months, just me and my wife, and been very happy with the results. However we were in a group of about twenty people there last Sunday, in the upstairs room, which is nicely appointed - and were sorely disappointed with both the length of time it took to serve the food, and the state of it when it arrived...
Starters went down well, but when the mains finally arrived (after about a 45-55 minute wait), the roasts were stone cold; already congealed gravy, potatoes like cotton wool, yorkshire puddings that were reminiscent of boarding school (pure stodge), and tired looking greens.
Those that had other options on the menu were happy; fish and chips were good, as was the risotto, and I can't fault the 2005 Corbieres except perhaps on price.
I'm likely to go there again - but will treat the food with a degree of suspicion.

Two of us waited almost an hour for a soup and a salad!!!! The soup was served cold, the steak came overdone (it was supposed to be rare)...

The worst food in whole London.....Kick the Italian Chef out please!!!!
But the service is much better--our waiter Alex was great!!! despite it all.
The roasts were so disgusting that we refused to pay for them at all.

I'm bemused by the variance here. I've used the Salt House consistently for the last couple of years and it's always delivered interesting and well-cooked food. The building is very pretty too. (My niece thought the bar looked like "Bilbo Baggins' House") I've brought friends here (and my parents) and they were all impressed by it - as were the Michelin Guide. On my last visit they seem to have got a new italian head chef, so it's worth going off piste a bit on the menu.
Very beautiful pub in an otherwise empty area - give it a try.

I think the reveiws below sum this place up - inconsistent at best. Stick to the "pub grub" (steaks/ burgers etc) stay away from the risotto and pasta. On the expensive side, but pretty convenient if you are local.

What a shame that they don't read their own reviews.
A really nice looking pub and the pub bit is fine for a drink with nice ambiance. However, please don't make the mistake of trying the restaurant at the back.
Last weekend when I went they had 2 girls serving 3 tables. Despite this their lack of English meant our order was wrongly taken down, the general level of service was derisory (they spent their time chatting rather than serving) and the food, when it came, was very average (at best).
I really hope they pull their socks up and make this pub what it should be.
