Last Saturday lunchtime my girlfriend and I went to Brunello for a quick lunch. £70 [2 courses and 2 glasses of wine] later we left having experienced a poor meal and poorer service. The maitre d' was off hand at the start [we never saw him again], the waiters could do nothing right; they provided a dish of olive oil but no bread, this came when requested after the starter; they dropped a plate; they failed to see that I did not have a knife and fork for the main course; delivered two plates of cakes and left them until reminded that they were for the table next door; failed to give that table any cake plates until reminded. As for the food it was not what you expect for £20 a head. In particular the chips with the chicken were soggy and could well have been frozen. Judging from other reviews there was something seriously amiss with front of house on this occasion but since I will not be returning I cannot say whether it was due to a single glitch or a systemic problem.
