went in last night for a few drinks and some food ( having read the great reviews written below )...something must have changed. miserable bar staff, the food was pretty terrible, service really slow, and on the whole hugely overpriced.

feels like a bit of a fashion show, but this is an all round great pub. Ate there for the fist time a couple of months ago, and can highly recommend the food, its fantastic!!! although, the service is always a bit slow...good choice of wines and beers.

i have been going to the Cat and Mutton for the past few months, since i heard they had a new chef, and that the food had improved!!! They were right. The food was amazing, and the general atmosphere in the pub is brilliant. Back on track guys!!!

The Cat & Mutton is a great place to go for a drink in the week, dinner or a hungover sunday lunch with friends. It's traditional at heart, atmospheric and has managed to retain an old East End aesthetic. I had the most amazing pork belly roast with apple & cinnamon sauce a few sundays ago, compliments to the chef! The wine list does well to serve up an international choice at reasonable prices, although i'd like to see a New Zealand Sauvgnion blanc on the list. The new forthnightly thursday comedy night adds even more character to a pub where the staff have always served me well and are nice and down to earth.

The Cat & Mutton has gone incredibly down hill. The food is bad and the service is even worse. We went for a Sunday roast there and after a very lengthy wait, the meal was served cold. The staff were too busy chatting to friends or each other to really care about whether their customers needed serving. When I did finally manage to attract the attention of a waiter by waving, he simply waved back in a mocking way and carried on chatting to the chef. Such a shame as its in a great location and used to be a decent place to eat and drink. I think the staff, manager, owner have all become quite arrogant and slap dash. It's an OK place to go if you want to drink and happy to wait a long time at the bar. However, if you're hungry and fancy a good meal with family and friends I would recommend you look for an alternative venue.

For whoever left the last comment, they obviously don't remember the old cat and mutton and obviously haven't lived here for long.
As i've stated before, i feel sorry for the waiting staff who have to navigate through such a busy pub to serve people, saying that, whenever i've been there the food has been excellent and service is definately improved in the last few months.
Yes its busy and i'm sure they are making lots of money, whats wrong with that?
Yes, there is a trendy scene there but i suppose thats the nature of the area.

Take over old pub
Replace all original features with bare boards, modern art, quirky chairs etc
Double the price of everything
Await the 20 somethings in their trilbys, punk belts and skinny jeans
Make lots of money!
The usual overpriced bar food, amateurishly cooked, tardily served.
The kids seem to love this kind of thing though

Went for a meal on a wednesday night there after i moved in to the area. Liked the atmosphere and the food was great. Went back the folloing sunday for a roast, food was great, the only problem was it was so busy i had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Staff were friendly and fun and the atmosphere from Sunday Roast environment to DJ's in the evening was unexpected but brilliant. Highly recommended.

went there for Sunday Lunch, couldn't order at the bar, they said someone would come over, they didn't, we had to catch someone's eye. Once we had ordered we had to wait about 45 minutes for the food, which wasn't that great when it did finally come. Staff were friendly enough, but a bit, well, rubbish to be honest. If i'm going to spend nearly £30 on two roast dinners, i'd expect good service and fine food, unfortunately we got neither
