what the critics say

Telegraph

Matthew Norman - 8/10

Monday, April 16, 2012 - This was probably the best vegetarian meal of my life. The array of mostly southern Indian dishes we ate zinged and sparkled with vibrant flavour...Potato bhajih (thin fritters) were accompanied by a brilliantly fierce relish of coriander, carrot, tomato, fresh chilli and lemon juice. The pick of the starters was sev dahi puri - an octet of little round bread balls filled with chickpea and potato, topped with strands of fried ground flour and spicy yogurt; one of those dishes that detonates explosions of different flavours.

TimeOut - 4/5

Thursday, July 14, 2011 - Luxuriously buttery dahl makhani needed the foil of cumin rice; rich too were the Shayona shahi paneer (the dense cheese in a creamy, saffron sauce) and the delectable stuffed aubergine (made somewhat mundane by its tikka masala-esque sauce). The term 'Shahi' means 'royal', a reference to the Indo-Persian court, so it's hardly suprising these dishes were all very rich. There's no alcohol - drink fresh juices or lassi (we can vouch for the refreshing vaghareli chaas, a salted spiced-up buttermilk - 'vaghar' means seasoned with spices, 'chaas' is the buttermilk drink). In all an uplifting, if not a religious, experience.

your comments review this restaurant and win a bottle of champagne

Having visited you last week with 80 children and 11 adults it was a mammoth task to please one and all. We were greeted by Dipa, who was both pleasant and extremely helpful. The children thoroughly enjoyed their experience as well as the constant supply of nan bread and puri to each table. Most of our pupils have tasted indian food but not vegetarian so it was a pleasant surprise to see them all try a little of most dishes. The word most used when asked how their meal was, was 'amazing'.

So thank you to all the staff and we look forward to visiting next year.
