Phene Arms

As a fairly new customer to the phene i have been nothing but impressed with the food and place as a whole. I can get real ale downstairs and then sit in the restuarant upstairs which is something you dont seem to find in many places any more.

I would reccomend it to anyone and my tip would be to ask for the one of the tables by the open fire

A great night - if you want to drink in a stuck up, pretentious place which clearly only wants a certin kind of customer. And you want to have fun - forget it, they'll just you to be quiet.

To Simon: NO, they're NOT. Chips are fat chunky things which are soft on the oustide and inside, fries are thin and crispy and usually pretty long. Compare a portion of chips from a Chinese chippy with a portion of fries from McDonald's and you'll see the difference. You may also notice you were ripped off by Mcdonald's giving you a tiny amount of food compared to what you get from the Chinese chippy. I'm specifically leaving English chippies out because even some of them seem to be selling fries now, trying to pass them off as chips.

I think the Phene Arms is one of the most intolerable places ever. The staff are only nice if you dress to a certain standard - wear shorts and a T-shirt, even in hot weather, or wrap up in loads of clothes in cold weather and they're instantly rude.
