I went to El Gaucho last week and I've eat the Best Steak in the world. Bife Angosto was my choice with spinach and a massive plate of mix vegetables on the grill. Service was very friendly and polite. Very good value for many. Will come back ! ! !

Went there with friends a few weeks ago. There were 7 of us and we were one of the first tables to sit down. Our attempts to get service were met with "just a minute". 45 minutes later we managed to order some drinks. We should have left at this point. But no, it was my friend's birthday and she didn't want to leave. 30 minutes after that we finally managed to order food. Another 45 minutes and the food arrived, and credit where credit's due, it wasn't bad. Certainly didn't justify the price but not bad. Not even when we asked for the bill were they quick. One place I can guarantee I won't be going again.
Oh, and it's a good job my friend was a native Spanish speaker as the waitress didn't speak English (or deliberately refused to acknowledge me when I spoke English)

What has gone wrong? Or were we just unlucky? I am not fussy and generally try to find the best in restaurants, but this was the worse food I have ever eaten in London! And what is worse, at £22 for each Bife de Lomo - it wasn't cheap either. The best part of the dinner was the plate of olives on our table when we arrived (which we later found on our bill!). We both ordered Bife de Lomo (medium rare) and keenly waited for the juicy, flavoursome Argentine steak we had read so much. One steak did arrive medium rare, but it had no flavour and was full of fatty sinues ... the second, must have come from Tesco's economy range and was leatherlike, well done and tasted so disgusting that I found myself putting tomato ketchup on it! I would not have been surprised if someone had told me it was leftover from the day before and stuck in a microwave. And the only common ingredient in El Gaucho's Chimichurri sauce and what I know as Chimichurri was oil. It had oil, chopped olives and peppers!! Where were the herbs and garlic?
Unfortunately, the wine did not even make up for it. I love the Argentine wine ... but the Malbec Reserva was bitter and could also have also been a mix of the day before's leftovers!
The service was ok!

I went to El Gaucho for dinner last Saturday .
Nice little restaurant, frames of Eva Peron,Alberto Olmedo (old famous comedian),Carlos Monzon (famous boxer),Maradona and Che Guevara (don 't know what was that frame doing there) all around the wall.Wood tables and chairs. It gives the feeling of being in rancho in the campo (country side) Very argentenian.
I had Bife de Lomo con papas fritas y ensalada (Sirloin steak with chips and salad) Massive plate.First it comes the steak and the chips on the same plate , then they bring u the salad on a separate small plate (the chips and salad where included in this £22 overprised dish which is worth in the end),but still expensive) The meat was lovely ,i ordered it a punto (medium) ,it just melt in my mouth. For a moment a i thought i was in restaurant in San Telmo or something .
After that ,there was no room for dessert at all.
There was just one thing i didn't like which was the Bruschetta, olives, sauce and bread "courtesy" they gave me which i had to pay for in the end, which was something they didn't let me know and i found out when i asked for the bill
It isn't about the money ,it's about that they have to let u know in advance as a customer you are that they are going to charge you for it ,it;s up to you in the end if you want it or not.Apart from that the service was good though.
By the way none of the staff were argentenian , apart from the mananger. That was a bit of a surprise as u expect to be served for argentenian people .

The steaks here are the best I've had. However, the service is bloody awful. Last time I went, the waitress spoke to me in Spanish and got our orders wrong. She couldn't speak English, was very unfriendly and rude. I'm not going back there again.

This used to be one of my favourite London restaurants but not anymore.
On my last visit, there was atrocious service from the head waitress down to the most junior member of staff. We even had the manager tapping on her watch asking us to leave as soon as we had finished eating and demanding payment.
None of the staff spoke good enough English in order to understand our complpaints and dissatisfaction with the service. The food is good but it's not worth the frustrating experience.

This is a really great place.
It is the best Argentinian restaurant I have found in London, and the food far outstrips a certain Argentinian steak chain in London. It has a very intimate atmosphere for somewhere so central.
The service can be a little relaxed but hey, that's just the Argentinian way, right?
Try the empanadas.

Had my 30th Birthday party dinner with some friends, and the service was not that great, but the food was great!! The steaks would just melt in your mouth. Avoid the "Milanesas", my girlfriends was a bit to dry and not that nice. Portions are very generous and the restaurant is small and intimate. They also have Quilmes, and Argentinian beer, 10 points for that!! Also make sure you try the desert Flan, it was quite simple AWESOME!!! Highly recommend trying this place atleast once!

this place will give you the authentic country side argentinean bbq in the middle of london, which is truely hard to find. I really recommend going if you havn't been before.
lately the meat quality has been somewhat varying, even though it always beats most other restaurants. the value for money is great.
the restaurant has a tendency to overcook the meat, so order rare if you really would like medium-rare.
over all this place is a must to visit if you like grilled steak!
