Gourmet Chick - 6/10
Wednesday, August 24, 2011 - Emporio Sao Paulo offers home made meals to eat in or takeaway and Carminha said the feijoada which is served on Wednesdays and Sundays has been a surprise hit with locals. Emporio Sao Paulo's version of the pork and black bean stew was delicious with tender, slow cooked pork melting into the beans. I even enjoyed the manioc which I had avoided in Brazil thanks to its similarity in taste to sawdust. Teamed with the rich feijoada it actually added a great textural contrast and I was instantly converted.

Sunday, August 21, 2011 - Our main course was a moqueca de peixe e camarao, a traditional Brazilian stew of fish and prawns. This was a moqueca capixaba, made with olive oil, onions and tomatoes, and is light and quite healthy; this is in contrast to a moqueca baiana, where palm oil is the cooking fat used and coconut milk is also added. Again, this is served on the weekends and also costs 7.50...Dessert time! A huge cake stand of the most beautiful white brigadeiros was brought out - there was one with passionfruit and coconut, another with pistachio, and a final with a surprise filling of a whole fresh grape.
