Great pub - great atmosphere (film nights, art exhibitions, live music, bbq in the garden), and consistently good food for me (averaging 4/5 (in terms of gastropub standard) for what must around 50 meals for me over the course the last few years). I wouldn't necessarily suggest that people travel far to eat here, but if you're local there's really no excuse not to try it out.

We went for a relaxed birthday brunch - a big group of several families. The venue is nice, but the food was of variable quality and the service poor: the person serving us appeared to have no experience dealing with people, food or drink (maybe it was her first day?). I'd might go again (they have film and music nights, which are appealing) for a drink, but I wouldn't recommend it as a restaurant.

Gastro Pub? Great evening venue for DJ music, but avoid for food. Went on Saturday as was promised a 10% discount for attendance at a local art exhibition, the 10% dsicount never materialised but by that time i was so desperate to get out of this place i did not question the bill. Very few people there for Saturday lunch - no atmosphere at all. Pub had no orange juice or chips (unbeleivable as there are 5 convenience stores within 100 yards selling potatoes - do they only serve ready made chips?). Menu really bland, Gastro circa 1992. We ordered all day breakfasts which at £8.50 a pop are not great value given that the eggs were over cooked and vegetarian sausages not cooked at all. All in all a horrible experience.

Very nice and relaxed atmosphere, good service, great food (and they accomodated my food allergy willingly), good music, nice garden - nothing to improve on? Well I guess it'd be nice if the chairs were a bit more comfortable. But otherwise, the perfect place for a mid-week catch up with your mates without breaking the bank.

I've always need a big fan of the S&D - great atmosphere, relaxed but different - and from the taste of it the food is obviously well-sourced and well-cooked.
And things seem to be getting better, because it's getting more difficult to get a table!
Great value - great place

Sun and doves has a nice beer garden for in the summer with a good range of cocktails and drinks. The food is good and i would recomend it as a good hang over cure for a brunch meal rather than a evening sit down meal, the cost maybe slightly over priced for what you get but genrally this is a good place to hang out and relax.

Went here with a few of us for Sunday lunch. Its a buzzing place (with loads of toddlers!!) and a has a very welcoming feel to it. The staff are very helpful and friendly and efficient too.
Food wise, we were all pretty impressed. Ok, its not michelin star, but what do you expect from a pub. I had calamari with sweet chilli, followed by Steak and Guinness pie with chips. All for about £18. It was tasty and hearty. So, definitely worth a visit.
