We had a meal here one freezing night and the atmosphere wasn't much warmer. The only other people who came in were picking up take aways. They don't seem to be licensed for alcohol which might account for the lack of trade.

The staff however were very welcoming and the food is exceptional and genuine, superior to most Indian restaurants in the area. Very good value as well.

Would definitely recommend it for a take away or on a warm day when you are off the booze :)

Having read the other reviews we thought it deserved a visit. Odd thing is i've never actually seen anyone eating there. Anyway, we received a warm welcome and started off with a chutney tray and poppadoms, very good. One of the best raita's i've had. Poppadoms hot and fresh, not those minging microwave ones that stick in your teeth. For starters we shared a superb onion bhaji. For main course we had mutter paneer, brinjal bhaji (aubergine) and chana masala - all side dishes, with rice and naan. Everything was fresh, not too oily and full of flavour. Loved the mutter paneer.

I tend to eat curry on a weekly basis, gradually working my through tooting and Balham. I think this is the best i've had in Balham, far better than their busier neighbours Hop & Spice and Indian Rooms.

The food from here is so good, it can actually make me happy when I've been feeling low. The garlic chicken masalla especially tastes wonderful, but everything we've ordered from there has been equally good.

Definitely a restaurant for people who want their food to taste of something. You can tell the ingredients are good quality and very fresh. I am always disappointed with the food when I eat a curry anywhere else.

The other thing that has been really bad for my diet, is that unlike most other Indian restaurants the food is just as good from the delivery service. So you don't even have to leave your house to get fantastic perfectly spiced food - I couldn't recommend this place enough.

I love this place! Such a good neighbourhood Indian. Small and intimate and the food is really really good. It's not innovative or groundbreaking cuisine but it it well cooked and delicious. Service is excellent and the staff will help you choose something delicious. It's usually full most nights, they need more tables. Not expensive either.

Probably one of the best indian restaurants I have been to in London. We went on a special "pay what you think the food is worth" deal, and it honestly was worth the menu prices! Great veg and non-veg options with speciality dishes alongside some old favourites. Great service, fantastic service and awesome location at Balham`s famous Bedford Hill. Its near a tube station 5min walk from Balham tube Northen Line. Highly recommended

Having recently moved to Balham I thought that I'd give Eastern Empire a try as I love Indian cuisine.

On arrival I was very welcomed and recommended great dishes that were cooked to order...it was all delicious, generously portioned and not expensive so an all round treat!

I recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for the authentic Indian with friendly staff and tasty food!

The Best by far
