Food is ok but the service is bad, they are rude about you if they think you don't know Farsi, direct to your face. luckily my wife speaks Farsi so understood everything! They also hassle you a lot about buying more food and leaving.
The toilets are disgusting which usually says something about their general cleanliness!
Go for the good, but not the service or cleanliness.

mahdi restaurant has always been a very good restaurant. the food is good especially 'joojeh kabab'. the whole vibe of the restaurant is very positive, the waiters are very nice and friendly. the food is very good value for money.
you can tell that it is a very good restaurant because it is full everytime you visit. may i just add, that some of these negative reviews are very exagerated.

the food is awesome. im the fussiest eater ever, but when i ate at madhi i must say i was more than overly surprised with the food. but you have to accept the place is busy and popular, the waiters try their best to be helpful and accommodate as best as they they can. so try and get everything ordered and placed 1st time on the table, if you don't then you have no choice to wait. i normally let them order on my behalf as im confident the food is going to be awesome.
not an ideal place for candle lit romance but superb for family gatherings.although this cuisine comes without music and alcohol which didn't bother me as their are other place for that kind of dining, this place is ideal place for taking the extended famliy and children for a reasonable priced evening out.
you will not be disappointed with the food. enjoy!!!!

Food is good, staff is more polite and friendly than most other Iranian restaurants in London. But they have this annoying urge to push everyone to pay by cash.

Mahdi is a personal favourite of mine, I love the place. Everytime I visit Hammersmith I make sure I have my lunch at Mahdi. The food is of course its pulling power but also they've made a real effort on the ambience side of things. Not one inch of space has been spared. it has a real authentic Iranian feel, the whole place is covered in bright rugs, decorative items and lovely huge pink chandeliers. I've been going to Mahdi for about 4 years since I discovered it on one rainy cold day. I happen to stumble in and instantly you feel warm and cosy. I'll never forget the taste of that soup - al reshte. It was beautiful; thick, full of lovely herbs and beans and lots of other things. The portions of this place are huge, very very generous. I do recommend Mahdi in Hammersmith if you like good authentic Persian/Iranian food.

I have visited a lot of Persian resaturants in Iran, London, USA and Germany ordering the same dish each time, Chelo Barg Morgh (rice with chicken kebab). In my opinion Mahdi's is the best. It provides you a menu with an extensive choice of starter and main course. Some ot them takes a long time in preparation when compared with dishes of other nations. You can also have hot Persian bread straight from the oven, baked on the premises. It also gives you the choice of asking for a take away box (microwave safe) and take home anything left over on your plates. My wife loves it, she is a Persian and appreciates the time and effort it takes to prepare good Persian dishes. So a visit to Mahdi restaurant saves her two days efforts of preparing food for two days.
We have recommended both Mehdi restaurants to a lot of our English friends. They have been there many times and enjoyed eating there. We entertain all our visitors from other countries there and they love the food.
Mahdi restauarnt is very popular amongst Iranians living in greater London as well as tourists from other countries. That is why you see it is always very crowded.

I visited this establishment recently and I was thoroughly disappointed with the staffs attitude and the ability to get my order right. I could say the staff were rude enough to eclipse the lengendary Wonkee's.
The starters, to choose 5 from a list of 14 some were not available.
I would say to anyone, it is a place to avoid at all costs.

Being a fan of middle eastern cusine I have eaten at so many Persian / lebanese resteraunts all over the city with all different price ranges, and I can honestly say that Mahdi is in a league of its own.
This isnt the most ideal place for a date but if you are going out to eat good food sold at a very reasonable price then you cannot go wrong. The menu has kebabs that you can find in any iranian resteraunt but also serves more traditional and classical iranian dishes such as stews, vegetable dips cooked in various different sauces. I think I have tasted almost every starter on their menu and they are heavenly, order the starters with their freshly baked bread which is normally 3.50 for a starter and 1 pound for a naan and that could comfortably be shared between two people as portions are generous at this place. Considering in most places you are paying 6 or 7 pounds for a starter and normally not even knowing what you have eaten.
With the mains, the meat is perfectly grilled, moist and juicy packed full of flavour and the accompanying garlic sauce for the chicken is heavenly, The grills are served with butter and saffron infued basmati rice which is nice but if you are feeling slightly adventourous I suggest you order your selection of meat seperatly and eat it with rice mixed with forrest berries or nuts, this makes for a much more exotic flavoursome taste.
Mahdi doesnt have a wide selection of deserts, its either persian iceream (saffron flavoured) faloodah (vercmelli noodle sorbet, lemon flavoured) or Iranian sweets which are mainly made from syrup and dough (order with tea) They are all authentic and delcious, But I think the sheer size of a desert portion cannot be good for your health.
Overall to ge the best out of this place, I suggest you go their as a group of friends and prefebly 4 or more, the reason being, it's great 2 taste a slection of the starters, as ultimatly they are the traditional persian food just presented as starters. Furthermore I think when it comes to deserts all three items should be ordered and the sweets should be consumed with tea as a fourth course as hot aromatic tea sweetened with something that isnt your boring old sugar bring the perfect balance to a meal. A group of 4 people that eat the mizxed starters, with bread, 3 different types of kebab, 2 different types of rice, 1 stew, deserts, tea and sweets will cost you about 22 pounds a head which is amazing for London.
