This is a much needed gastro pub in this area - which can seem a bit desolate on a first visit. And as somebody said below, one of the few nice places for a younger crowd to hang out. But the food could be that bit better. The burgers are not very special and the steaks lack a wow factor. The Thai options are pretty horrible. I suspect they know they've got a captive audience and they get the sports crowd with their big screen TVs so they're not making a huge effort on the food. But that's a shame. That area is being gentrified slowly and they'll see competition sooner than they expect.

It is a fantastic local, a good place to take your friends and family for a hungover brunch or pub lunch. Reasonable pricing for the siae of the meals which are often served with a little more than average flair; but watch out unless you like your Full English in artistic proportions.
The burgers and roasts are the bomb! (sweet chilli sauce and fat chips? genius!)
Not so good for vegetarians however, the Sheep's only real flaw with the menu - but it counts for a lot. If there was more variety (a mozarella and basil panini does not cut it) otherwise we would make many more return visit (and the food rating would be 8).
During evenings it can get very busy at the bar, table service does ease the pressure but the noise in a room with sparse soft furnishing can't be avoided; and neither can the smoke, even if there's only a few smokers.
Avoid it by sitting on the terrace and you may encounter an issue with the road. A shame in summer. But at least being on three bus routes makes it very easy to get to! And it is worth getting to. It is definitely one of the best venues in the area for lunch and some daytime drinking.

The Black Sheep is a little gem! A big screen with random tvs to watch football, rugby etc, tasty food (fabulous nibbles backed up with decent sized mains) and delicious 2-4-1 cocktails on Sunday evenings. They have some cosy couches perfect for winter and a decked street-side "beer garden" for summer.
Importantly, the usual crowd are not too young, not too old.
On weekends you'd be best getting in early as it can get busy!

The Black Sheep is just down the road from me, and I have to say I don't do it justice by not making my way there more often. The food is great, no fuss and good portions. A great local pub, I guess it's almost too good so I forget about having that option and make my way central, but for anyone that's close enough it's worth having a look.
