I have been going to Mangosteen for the last 7 years, often on a thursday night (late night shopping) and often on my own (although I have taken friends here too who have loved it as much as myself). I must confess I usually have the same meal (cos I love it) chicken with green bean and red curry paste (I always ask and they alway accommodate me to change for chicken). I have always been served very speedily and have had no complaint. Except for once when I was on my own (which I don't mind but you need to have something to read otherwise you do look sad and lonely) they put me down stairs where the light was too bad for me to read, I asked to move table to nearer the light and they said no even though the tables were empty and I always eat and leave quick. But other than that I cannot complain the food has always been consistently good and extremely good value for money.

I must say that Mangosteen has the best thai in London. Every dish I and friends ordered on Saturday night were extremely delicious. The service they provided us was very good. The waiters were very friendly and helpful with the orders. they gave us some recommendations about their food.

They really know what they were talking about and this really impressed me a lot.

I would recommend anyone to come and try Mangosteen in Soho.

We love this restaurant and have used it many times over approx 5 years or so. We travel approx 35 miles to the centre of London and this always a part of the trip that we really look forward to. The food and service has always been brilliant. I also think the prices are very reasonable considering the location. Please don't be put off by that one bad review. Everybody is obviously entitled to their opinion, but I can only think that somebody, possibly the reviewer? had a bad day. Always a good idea to book, particularly for busy times as this is a small restaurant. We were so disappointed when we didn't and had to eat elsewhere.

The comment below is a load of rubbish if this really happened, which I doubt, it was a one off!

I have been here twice and both times were an excellent experience! The food was lovely the staff welcoming and the service beyond reproach! If the person that made this hateful review actually considered their words before they wrote they might not be as vindictive!

To other people reading these reviews this place is a great wee restaurant and very well priced! And prepared perfectly to typical Thai cuisine. If they messed up the previous reviewers meal is was just human error and by no means a common place performance. And no I dont work there.

Starters: Thom Sam salad - never arrived

Grilled Tofu Satay - The tofu was frozen and then deep fried before being grilled to death. Awful...

Mains: Vegetarian Pad Thai noodles - over salty and contained bits of pork, pretty disgusting. If anything this looked and tasted Chinese rather than Thai

Fried Squid in chilli and onion - Not bad, but portions was too small and again it tasted like Chinese takeaway food, only more expensive and not as good as my local Chinese.

Coconut rice - Too much sugar, horribly sweet.

Good points: The missing thom sam salad was not included in our bill. Beer was nice and cold!

Overall I'd say the food here was a Chinese takeaway chef's vague idea of Thai food, having never eaten it himself. Can't believe people pay for rubbish like this in a prime location. This is probably the worst meal I have had in a restaurant in the last 5 years. Oh well, you live and learn!

I think this restaurant is excellent. When I went there, I had curry and rice.

The curry was exquisite, it had lots of chicken,so I enjoyed the meal.

I think all food in this restaurant was divine and I saw other dishes which looked

very mouth-watering and tempting. There were generous portions. The curry which I ate was so spicy, but I like spicy food.

The atmosphere was chilled out and romantic. The lights were low and there were some candles on each table. I wish I could go to this restaurant with my girlfriend who I will meet in the future.

The prices were also reasonable. You can have dinner for 12pounds.

The staff are also friendly, polite and attentive.

If I should recommend a restaurant to other people,I will recommend this restaurant.

Our Saturday evening meal consisted of the mixed entree (i.e. satay; spring rolls etc), which was average. Mains included the speciality "egg bomb" as well as duck with tamarind and a beef curry. The quality of the mains was superior to the entree (which I put down to poor choice on my behalf). The ingredients were fresh, though the duck was a little dry.

Service was extremely good and the atmosphere generally fine. A good little find for a quick meal and relatively cheap meal.

A little gem of a restaurant in Soho, the service is quick the food is good, the prices are reasonable. It's not high-end Thai cuisine that honour would probably go to Patara, or perhaps the Blue Elephant. Definitely worth a try, I've been there 6 times thus far, and wouldn’t hesitate going back. Good for lunch, or an informal dinner, but I wouldn't spend my whole evening there.

Great place to have a quick bite between shopping. 2 dishes plus 3 drinks equalled 17 pounds. What else do you want?

Mangosteen off the famous Carnaby Street in London- was absolutely fabulous. Lots to choose on the menu both for meat lovers and vegetarians, and incredible cheap prices, Starters from £3.25. Very busy so best to book. Ground level and basement dining - simple, not fancy...but who cares when the food was so very tasty and beyond words. Best Thai we've tasted outside of Thailand. And if you like red- chilean merlot, rich and gorgeous. Staff enthusiastic & friendly, and will bring food to right person without asking who ordered what, and the food comes when its ready as its really busy which gives you more of a chance to sample everyone else's food.

We've now found an even better reason to come into London more often from the Home Counties.

Well done Mangosteen x
