City Cafe

I went with some friends to City Café last weekend. And I was looking forward to go given the very good reviews I read about it, but at the end I left very disappointed, maybe because I was the responsible for choosing the restaurant.
The issue was time. We arrived for dinner and we ordered straight forward. One of my friends following the recommendation of the waitress ordered a fish pie. Then after 45 minutes of drinking, the waitress came back to tell us that one of the main dishes we ordered was not available, the fish pie. My friend chose other dish and then we had to wait another thirty minutes to get the …starters? We were expecting a courtesy soup that was included in the menu. We reminded it to the waitress. We finished the starters and we had to wait for the courtesy soup. At the end, we got the soup, the main course and desserts. We left the restaurant at 12 a.m. (we arrived at 9:15 p.m.).
From a positive side, the food was good

CityCafe is rather close to my work place and it is located in the CityInn Hotel. Recently I just found that their lunch is only £9.95 for 2 courses or £14.95 for 3 and therefore, I gave it a try.
Food: Simple, tasty and good portionm but tend to a bit too salty. However, for £5 each course, you can't really complain about it.
Service: Good in general. Quite attentive.
Atmosphere: Contemporary, and comfortable.
Value for Money: £10 for 2 courses. I guess you can't really find something like this anywhere else in London

I would say do not go to this restaurant at the moment. They forgot to tell us when we booked that it was being rebuilt, so we were stuck in a corridor - literally! - and there was drilling going on behind the screen. The food was very nice but riciulously small portions. Vegetable kebabs had 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 small cubes of tofu and 1 piece of vegetable on each. (& you got 2 kebabs). It would have been small for a starter - as a main it was ridiculous. the sauce came in a pot, but had already developed a film on top. They ran out of the beer I was drinking after bottle #2, and somehow I ended up paying £35 for 2 cocktail stick kebabs, 3 beers and some chips. Go here at your peril!
