Following the positive reviews we ordered by delivery:
"Tareko squid: deep fried and delicately spiced squid with herbs". In fact this was flaccid calamari with chutney, not a fresh herb in sight.
"Himali duck: mildly marinated duck breast in a classic nepalese flavouring, cooked slowly in the chuli". We were baffled how meat slow cooked could be so dry. The "classic Nepalese flavouring" was barely discernable.
"Sherpa lamb: tender pieces of boneless lamb cooked with mild spices". There was nothing tender about this dish. Again very dry with a faint generic curry powder flavour. For "Sherpa lamb" read bad shish kebab.
The fact the duck and lamb were touted as "house specialities" says it all.
Apart from the brown rice, the portions were (ironically thankfully) meagre.
The meal was such an unmitigated disappointment that it left us thinking the reviews below must be by "friends" of the owners.

This is a jewel in the crown of SW12.
I eat here once every 6 weeks and you couldn't wish to find more attentive and friendly staff.
A varied and fairly-priced menu awaits and the surroundings and cleanliness of the restaurant are first class. So sure are they of their standards that as you walk to the toilets there is a huge glass panel showing off how SPOTLESS the whole kitchen is. This leaves you in no doubt about the cleanliness of it's staff and the high quality of the food that you're about to eat. (the kitchen staff even waved at me as I walked past too - the staff that work here really are super friendly)
I shall continue to return time and time again.

On a Business trip with work to South London as colleague and I visited The Gurkhas Restaurant on Tuesday 10th May.
Service was Very Good, food was excellent and reasonable , for two cost about £60 including drinks. The whole meal was very nice , well presented and tasted delicious.

A great restaurant. I went here with my boyfriend on a Tuesday night - and it was really busy! The food was gorgeous and the staff couldn't have been kinder. I couldn't stop thinking about how good the food was all the day after and I can't wait to go back and try lots of other dishes on the menu. I'm a veggie and there was so much to choose from. Definitely go there!

I struggle to think of a better example of food, service, surroundings and cleanliness at the modest prices they charge. A clear favourite of mine.

Went last Friday night. Was terrific. Staff very friendly, and helpful. Wasnt sure what to ge off the menu - dont know Nepalese food too well. But, the staff advised on the best options based on what type of Indian food I normally enjoy. Decent prices too.
