The worst restaurant in Camden: Silk and Spice. I went a few years ago and the food was lovely, 2 years later another story.

Poncy, expensive, smallest portion on the planet, the eastern european waitress was spaced out and didn't actually understand what anything on the menu was (we still dont know what wolf berry were but neither did she), the owner was like a hawk around you removing plates before we actually finish (and due to size portion we wanted every last grains. there was no drink menu prices, for an asian restaurant they had ran out of most flower teas.

The thing was the place was empty and only 2 tables had costumers (that should have been a clue) so not like they were rushed off their feet. they were too busy spying on you rather than smile or be friendly, I was with guests visiting London and they were not impress. One I definitely won’t return to, I should have stick to my regulars eating haunts.

Great food, however very poor service. We were there today for mothers day and they only had 2 waiters to a very busy restaurant. We had to wait 10 minutes to get our drinks and 30 minutes for starters, then when they arrived they only bought one of the starters so i was without any food after all that waiting. So when we requested not to pay the optional service charge as service had been poor the manager told us if we did not want to pay for service we should eat at home! So very rude too. If you dont mind waiting ages for your food or being served by miserable staff then this is the place to go!

I'll never be returning to this restaurant. Some of the worst service I have experienced in London.

We walked in without a booking at 9.30 on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was empty apart from one other couple.

We were ushered to a table for two in a tight spot right in the main thoroughfare of the large restaurant. I asked if we could sit at one of the many tables by the window and was told that these were only for tables of four people. I asked if they were expecting alot of bookings that night. They said they had no other bookings. Not a good start...

After eventually negotiating for a less cramped table we were asked to order our food. I asked if we could order some drinks first. The surly middle aged waiter grudgingly complied. After ordering the food the starters arrived. They were OK - battered prawns and a bland chili dip. Quite edible I suppose. I ordered a Malaysian curry with rice and my partner had noodles. We enquired about their selection of mixed vegetables but the waiter couldn't explain the difference between the three vegetable dishes.

About 15 minutes into our main course the waiter appeared again. He didn't speak but just hovered by our table and then disappeared. This kept happening at regular 5 minute intervals. He obviously wanted us to leave as soon as possible. After the fourth time he came round I asked him if he would like us to go. He gave a nervous laugh and said that the restaurant was closing soon. (It was 10.30 the restaurant shut at 11).

After finishing my curry the waiter appeared again and started clearing my plates and the rest of the crockery whilst my girlfriend was halfway through her noodle dish. He removed everything from the table apart from her dish and the cutlery she was holding. I guess we were being hinted at again.

I asked for the bill as she was still eating. I really faniced a nice coffee after the meal but didn't want to hang around in this hostile environment.

I may have just caught the staff on a bad night, but they certainly made an impression on us - enough for me to write this review and warn people what they might expect.

A large group of us ran up a bill of nearly 400 pounds (including a large drinks order) and were later refused a jug of tap water. I won't be going there again.

Having specified that I was allergic to a given herb, it was not only put in my food but the staff denied this and in fact accused me of lying. I have never experinced such rude and aggressive service as a paying customer before and feel that anyone considering dining at Silks and Spice in Camden should think twice before dining here. I would also like to state that this is the first complaint I have ever bothered to make.

I went here last night with my girlfriend and have to admit we were not impressed. To start with we had to return the prawn crackers as they tatsed like they had been left out for a while. Not a good start.

We ordered the mixed starter for 2 which was actually not bad. I had noticed that there was a distinct lack of chilli but for starter of spring rolls, prawn on toast etc you could expect much.

For mains I ordered a prawn pad thai along with sweet and sour tofu. My girlfriend had lamb massaman curry with steamed rice.

Both mains had a over powering taste of sweetness. Im not talking about the thai sweetness that is ofset with chilli but it was literally like having dessert. Disgusting. Both mains tasted fairly fresh and looked good but very very sweet.

In future I will stick to my local, family run restaurant which I am increasingly using as a benchmark.

I went here for my birthday based on the recommendations on this page. Although our waitress was very friendly and the sparkling wine was ok, the food was far from the nicest Thai/Oriental I've had. The mixed starter was cold and the fishcakes rubbery, and our Thai green curry was nothing special. I don't think I'll be going again.
