Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Room

This place was once lovely. On Saturday my friends and I were treated to surly service and from one of the waitresses outright agresssion. I see from other reviews time pressure is not something the Prince Alfred handles well these days.

Don't p*ss your customers off, guys – they won't come back.

We used to eat here frequently, but it has unfortunately become a victim of its own success: free bread and olives has evolved to paying for each, separately; friendly service has evolved to rushed, surly and impersonal; great food has simply declined. A great shame, as it was a really good find.

Stunning place!!F rom walking in to an amazing bar, with an intriguing decor and very comfy chairs, to eating in the beautiful restaurant-it was a lovely evening! Lovely floor, lovely furniture, lovely service, lovely food! Our waitress Kat was also...LOVELY!! She was attentive, personal, friendly, informative and responsive. The food was delicious and I would definitely rush back for the venison on mustard mash with red wine jus! Great selection of beers, new and old. It was a pleasure to spend our time and money there. I cannot wait to make this my new local-even from Highgate! A must for anyone in the area, and a repeat visit can only add to the experience!! Great, loved it. Loved it.

Nice dining room and decor with reasoable food, but was let down by their inability to handle our large group (25-30). We were given a two hour slot and were packed in like sardines but they had only one waitress taking orders and serving us most of the time and as a result food arrived over an extended period and plates were not hot. Toward the end they were rushing us.

I have eaten here often as it is just up the road, it is a wonderful place. The food is always good, the wine list is great. I have always had outstanding service and really enjoy this place.

It is also a beautiful building.

Highly recommended.
