Buckingham Balti House

Our office is located close to the Buckingham Balti and we decided to give the restaurant a try after work. We were all very impressed with the food, the vegetable dansak was outstanding as were the onion bhajis. The portions were not the biggest, but they were certainly large enough that we could not finish everything that we ordered. We shall definitely be returning, possibly to take advantage of the lunchtime deal they advertise.

Awful, awful, awful experience! We were meeting friends from the states and decided to try to find a nearby fairly inexpensive Indian restaurant and by the menu outside, this seemes to be the place! From the moment we stepped foot inside they staff were all rude, rude, rude! They took our drink order and ansked if we were ready to order our food, but we hadn't even opened the menus! We ordered popadums, which never came. We had to order the popadums 3 more times before they actually brought them, at which time we also ordered our dinner. I specifically asked them to NOT bring out the main courses until we had finished the popadums... ha! As if I actually thought they would listen to my request. Completely ignored. Oh, and in between we had ordered another beer, which was also never turned up, until we reminded them a 2nd and 3rd time. Also worth mentioning that prior to receiving our food, the 2 woman dining at the table next to us complained that their food was completely cold, the waiter simply stared at them as if he didn't see anything wrong with it! He just stood there while they repeated themselves that the food was COLD! So he finally offered to heat it up for them (not to replace it or get them a fresh dish), instead he just took away their plates and microwaved the food. Then, our food arrived (with of course 2 popadoms still not yet eaten) and I pointed out that I was not happy that they ignored my request to wait to bring the food until after we had eaten the popadums. My husband then added that he was not happy to pay for the popadums and the guy sooo rudely responded, 'don't you worry.' And the food was just so-so. I'm sure the lamb we had was frozen and was so hard and chewy that it was not nice to eat. Ah!!!! I'm so distraught by this experience, that I could just go on and on! And this is all coming from a person who HATES to complain as I have worked in this industry (and my husband still does). Anyway, I really really want to urge people not to waste their time and money at this place! I agree with the reviewer from 27th May, and wish I had read his review beforehand!

I can't review the food because my experience with the place didn't get that far.
I knew I made a mistake when the waiter looked reluctant to approach our table for our order. He didn't even have the courtesy to fully come close to the table. Since this was going to be our first visit we were not familar with the portion sizes. All other restaurants are helpful in answering any questions that we as customers have. NOT THIS PLACE!!! The waiter was arrogant, rude, disrespectful and non-cooperative. After seeing his several eye rolling motions to us, we knew it was time to leave since we were sure there would be some extra foreign objects added to each of our dishes.
Upon leaving he said "yes go to Mcdonalds". This was the worst experience I had at any restaurant in my life. Even if the food was terrific I would never stay and be treated like that. Do yourself a favor and DON'T VISIT THIS PLACE !!! They don't deserve your business!!!!

Ending up in Victoria last night, and fancying a curry, we went to the Buckingham. I am a big fan of bog-standard Indian restaurants that produce inexpensive, satisfying food in generous quantities. The Buckingham produces excessively greasy curries, in tiny portions, at inflated prices. Even the nan bread and portion of pilau rice were small. The Buckingham isn't bog-standard, it's sub-standard.
