I use this restaurant regularly for take away and my order is always the same: a mixed selection. No need to give further details except how much you want to spend (£15-20/person makes a good meal out of it)
Reliable and very tasty!!!
Love it!

I thought Pham Sushi is pretty decent. For London, at least.
Not that I was completely bowled over: I was not impressed by the fact that the rice in the nigiri was not in the traditional fan shape (which I concede, did not make too much difference to the taste, except the way they had it at Pham meant the nigiri had a tendency to disintegrate when held in chopsticks), the tempura sushi roll was just a terribly bad idea (too oily), the rice in the katsu-don (pork cutlet on rice) was a bit on the cold side and the sauce was too salty (think they forgot the sugar), and worst of all, the rice in the chirashi (sashimi on rice) was just too cold and too hard (should be hot and fluffy!)... [maybe I went on multiple wrong days when the main chef wasn't there...]
Nonetheless, I was suitably impressed by the freshness of the fish and other ingredients, and in particular, the crunchy yellow tail roll, the aubergine and miso (the skin was too hard though), the tempura and (I think I have the name right...) the chef roll.
I was slightly disappointed that the staff couldn't speak japanese, for although it doesn't make the food taste better (nod to Goodwoogie's comment), it was a bit difficult to explain to the staff what engawa was (my favourite sashimi) as I have no idea what the english name for it is - which basically meant I didn't manage to order it. (Happily, Sakura has it. And I think their food is slightly superior to that of Pham.)
Notwithstanding any of the above, the staff were polite and helpful. Food (relative to other japanese restaurants in London) was pretty good (let's not compare to Nobu...). Interior was clean and pleasant. Basically, I enjoyed the experience and will return again (really want to try their tsumetai soba (cold soba)).

Fantastic, my favourite restaurant. I eat there every week. Beats the pants off some of the dross in Mayfair where you pay for polished marble and fashionable lighting.
The crunchy yellowtail rolls are delicious, and they source superb ultra fresh fish. No sweaty rubbery stuff like at 'Wasabe' or 'Samurai'. Staff are nice too.
Highly recommended, and great value for central London. I can stuff myself for £25! Good way to kick off a night in Shoreditch I reckon.

The best sushi in town and Japanese food that I have tasted in london. Keep going back for more. It is a bit far from where I live, which is good otherwise would keep eating there everyday!
Reasonably prices which is not the case the moment Japanese is added before ' food'. The fish is fresh and just disappears the moment you bite on the sushi or sashimi. The other items on the menu for e.g Katsu or Katsudon are also delicious, so is the black cod.

I really think this is one of the best sushi bars in London! Try the crunchy Tuna roll! Staff are great and yes the fish is fresh! I moved out of EC1 2 years ago but still drive for an hour for dinner there.

Then,
Regarding your recent 'review' of Pham Sushi.
1. You have only ever been there THREE times so how do you know whether Japanese Ex-pats eat there or not???????
2. You are comparing Phams with places like Edokko- why? The two restaurants couldn't be any more different. I should know as I have been to both on more than THREE occasions.
3. You state that the place is not run by a proper sushi chef. The chef at Phams is ex Nobu.
4. Why is it necessary for the staff to speak Japanese? Does that improve the food?
All in all Pham Sushi has a cult following. 90% of the people who eat there are regulars. They offer a well organised take-away/delivery service which is perfect for City workers at lunch time. Last time I was there the chefs were busy preparing amazing looking fresh sushi platters for the opening of a nearby art gallery.
I find it very strange that there is only one bad review and the extremely harsh criticism contained in it is not even backed up or constructive.
Anyone would be lead to believe that the person behind this is a rival with a serious case of sour saki?????????????

I read the glowing reviews of Pham Sushi and decided to make the trip from gloucestershire to get my long awaited Japanese fix. I asked five friends to meet me at the restaurant tucked away in the back streets of EC1.
We were so pleased we made the effort. The service was friendly and quick. The food was excellent. We enjoyed the fresh mixed sashimi , soft shell crab roll, crunchy tuna roll and unpretentious amosphere.
Prices were very reasonable.
I will definately recommend Pham Sushi to others.

Ignore the review by Then. Read the other reviews and make up your own mind. I have been going to Pham Sushi for a couple of years and, in my opinion, it serves the best sushi I have tasted.

for any body reading through these reviews please disregard the last review. it was unkind, unhelpful and badly wrong. i would suggest (i am a chef myself) that you read the many further glowing reviews on this page. pham sushi has consistanyly provided me with fantastic food for 5 years. i have friends who live abroad and their first stop when back in the uk is pham. i suggest you order the crunchy tuna roll and the seafood noodles and sit back and think about what a berk the last reviewer was!

One of the worse Japanese restaurants in the City - the fish is not fresh and of poor quality, the rice is poorly cooked and somewhat 'clumpy' and the prices are not competitive at all. In fact, the place isn't even run by a proper sushi chef and none of the staff can speak a word of Japanese.
A place for people who have not tasted real, authentic japanese cuisine. For true sushi-lovers, I'll recommend you go elsewhere.
