The Thai Cafe is an absolute gem. We must have eaten there thirty or forty times and it never fails to hit the spot, the proprietress is lovely and it's incredibly cheap. A great neighbourhood restaurant with smashing food.

There was a time when the Thai Cafe had some of the best student food in London. Sadly, in recent times it seems to have gone off the boil. The resturant itself is cramped, noisy and hot and the food, while once fantastic, is decidely mediocren thesedays. I'm amazed at all the good reviews here (I'm beginning to suspect they don't print bad ones!). Much better is the relatively new Blue Moon Cafe just up the road which has very much stolen the Thai cafe's thunder - not to mention its customers!

A local classic with great atmosphere, a range of dishes from authentic Thai (try the Laap Gai, panang beef curry or the noodles with fish curry) to less fiery ones aimed at the English palate. A charming, relaxed oasis where you are guaranteed a warm welcome.

Food quite good, although the chefs are Thai, the food is however too much trying to adapt to European tastes, shame: what is goo, could be great!

Having moved away from Kentish Town/Tufnell Park I sorely miss Thai Cafe as I used to sometimes frequent it perhaps three times per week! I would reccommend it to anyone after simple, cheap food with friendly service with take away available. I am not sure whether they have since applied for a licence to sell alcohol but the owners usually don't mind if you bring your own for a small corkage fee. The resaurant has four booths that hold about four people comfortably and a few tables that I managed to sit at least 12 people around for my birthday. I think they have plans to expand but I am sure that Thai Cafe will still remain intimate and pleasant though. All in all, a lovely little family-run restaurant.

The food at Thai Cafe is very reasonably priced (the fish cakes and the curry dishes are especially good value) and it operates a BYO policy (with no corkage fee I think) and I have always found the service to be extremely pleasant. If you're looking for a laid-back Thai experience, check this place out.
