First time visit to the restaurant. The children loved the food and it was free which was even better! My husband and myself were quite disappointed. The chicken and mushrooms were very heavily salted, like eating chunks of salt and very basic. the food was very basic and the service was not good. One of the staff was eating her dinner behind the counter, one staff was new and had not been properly trained and had to keep going off to ask questions in the middle of our order. I ordered red wine but got rose but that is an easy mistake although rose is cold and red is not! after ordering deserts the waitrose took the order for a second time as it had not come!

1) We were forced to order the set menu.

2) We ordered and drank 3 Sangria and they charged us for the price of 4.

3) When the food came, we got all the cheap bulk ie massive platters of potatoes, aubergine, eggs and croquettes.

4) The chicken wing portions were so tiny that we got ONLY ONE WING PER PERSON! The calamari portions were the same.

5) The paella, seafood plater and the saltfish never came but they chrged us for the full price.

6) We contested the price and said its not fair that we pay full price when we did not receive all the food. Then they turned abusive and agressive so that we had to keep quiet and pay them in order for us not to spoil our night.

On the overall, they maximise their profit by sending cheap food on your table to stuff you and the expensive seafood nerver comes. If you want a hasle and quality time, don't go there.

I have eaten at La Tasca in Croydon several times as my husband and I attend the excellent salsa classes there. Generally our party asks for the £10 tapas - eat as much as you like for a tenner, Sundays to Thursdays. When you finish one set of dishes you order more to arrive freshly cooked a few minutes later and you keep going until you can't eat any more!

I have always found this to be very good value for money. There have never been any complaints about the food - only comments on how delicious it was with a good range of dishes to choose from despite the low price.

Also the service has been good. We were recently served by Ricardo who couldn't do enough for us, Full marks, Ricardo!

Terrible!! The worse spanish tapas restaurant I have been in London. Warm beer, small portions, not very good food in general.

Agree with the previous reviewer. Meat and fish dishes are served warm (at best) and are clearly reheats. Therefore stay well clear of the seafood. The salads and vegetable dishes were fresh and good for the price. Service very, very slow. We could've walked out after our meal and no one would have noticed.

I tried La Tasca in Croydon in July (07) and the food was mediocore at best, not warm through and tasted like it all came out of packets. food was cheap though so perhaps you get what you pay for.

Do not go here especially in large group. Food is so salty it makes you dehydrated. Service is so-so. Waiter nice enough but difficult to understand. Did not bring enough food out at the correct times. Very expensive for a few plates of potatoes and chicken - worked out about £25 a head.

Terrible. Group of 12 of us - ordered 12 heads from the third menu at £16.95. Simple enough you may think. Pandamonium ensued. We had a nice enough waiter although his hair and him had obivously fallen out with one-and-other. The food turned up in dribs and drabs in about an hour - bread left til last and no olives (I dont mind, don't like the damn things). 8 Meat balls turned up for 12 people - then some chicken things. Both tasted EXACTLY like campbell's in a can and we're so salty, most of our heads had turned in-side-out by the time we left. Their was some beef tomato slices, that was pretty good. Must try that one at home next time I'm feeling daring. The bread was well cut. The beer was alright.

End of the day, we all left £300 lighter and very hungry and with enough salt in our mouths to go and lick the A1 when there's the next bout of snow.

Oh, and when we pointed out there was only 8 small pieces of chicken and the same amount of meatballs for 12 people, our waiter got some more (30 mins later) and when giving them to us explained he was doing so to "stop making us cry about it".

This is now The Islington Tapas Bar and not La Tasca. La Tasca was one of my favourite restaurants but unfortunately this didn't live up to its standards. The food was expensive for what it was, we ordered 7 tapas between us and we not impressed. The Patatas Bravas, usually so nice, were just roast potatoes with a congealed tomato sauce on top, and the fish dishes were overcooked to the point of complete dryness. The staff were very pleasant and polite but unfortunately the food was just not good enough.
