Sabor

Great place. The fact that it works despite being such a long and thin building is proof of the clever decor, tasty food and cocktails and superb value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. The special offer valid during the week made our evening out one of the cheapest as well as nicest. Tasty food and totally different from what you get elsewhere. Somewhat on the heavy side though, my fish was huge and dessert was just not an option. Cocktails large and very cheap for what you get. More than 2 and I would have been staggering home. Recommended.

Visited the restaurant on Saturday and it was very quiet (only us a nd a few others) which was great. Music was peaceful in the background and the eating area was clean and tidy.

Choice of food is fairy limited but there's still something for everyone, even the veggies. Food arrived promptly and the waitress was polite and courteous.

I can't fault the food at all, it was extremely tasty and filling and the tempranillo was just right. We'll definitely try this restaurant again but next time probably won't have any breakfast so we can manage a dessert.

The two of us went here... Yet another place where you arrive and they take it for granted you did 'not' book. Places really need to make their requirements clear on bookings.

Anyhow nice place itself albeit in an area that might not be to everyone's taste. Welcoming staff and seated with an option of 'in the window' or to the rear. I should have said in the window because my view was the servery. (lol)

Starter was okay, not what was expected but the Red Snapper pan fried served with rice was spot on. Nicely presented in 'hotel' fashion but none the less enjoyable. I think me seeing the servery area (and a minutre bit of the kitchen) proved a professional manner of operation.

Generally a good experience, maybe not the top of the 'revisit' list but recommended. Damned good value for money though I have to confess my friend always' spots the bill total before I put my glasses on! LOL

great food, generous portions and wonderful knowledable service. The peruvian chicken was tasty and hearty, it left a big smile on my face. The chocolate pudding was so nice that we had to order seconds. Well worth the money! The only downside was that was too full to eat any more.

Excellent food! Not too much choice though, but at least makes it easer for you to make up your mind.

I had to do change my plans that Friday evening and everywhere was full and not booking. But I managed to book at Sabor. They were crowded when we came in, but they kept one of the best tables for us.

Staff was very friendly, helped us with the choice and made sure we are not waiting for anything. We were so happy with the service that we wanted to leave an extra tip, although we figured that the service is included because we were given bread- and may I say one of the best breads I ever tasted)

Paola, who was in charge of our table, wouldn't take it and explained that it was already included. During the whole evening she helped us feel the friendly and hospitable atmosphere of the place and this way I would like to thank her for that.

Very good food and attentive staff. Had dinner for 2 for around £60 pound incl. service and wine, which is not exactly cheap but ok for the quality. Some of the red wines are well worth a try!!

My wife and I recently went to Sabor and we both enjoyed the experience. Sabor means taste in Spanish and the menue offers a great selection of South American flavours.

For starters, I had the homemade chorizos while my wife went for the lamb with a mint relish served in a corn based pasty. The chorizos had a subtle spiciness and were less greasy than normal. The lamb was full of flavour.

I chose the barbecued Argentinian steak as the main course. The meat was well seasoned, but slightly undercooked. My wife had the sea bass served with a cocunut sause, a combination that worked very well. Portions are generous and come with salads and other complements.

Service was good througout the evening. The staff were knowledgeble and professional. In summary, Sabor offers good food at reasonable prices and is well worth a visit.

Decided to try Sabor to celebrate an anniversary, we found that the waiting staff were attentive however seemed rushed throughout the night, its a popular address. Started with 2 mojito cocktails from the nice selection, food is well priced and the portions were well sized. The main course for me was a lovely rack of lamb with a nice SA sauce, fantastic stuff. Only downside i felt the music was too loud and that was maybe in part due to the ambiance in the restaurant, very loud clientelle. However the Latin Trifle which was new to the menu, with its jelly and red fruit base with a cocunut flan and topping of mango fruit was heavenly.

There are only so many times you can visit the restaurants on Upper Street, so thank goodness for Sabor. The menu is an excellent mix of meat, fish and veg dishes all with an unusual twist. It's particularly good for a Latin American take on the Sunday breakfast, much tangier and fresher than a fry-up and with the full range of Sunday papers and a peaceful atmosphere (yes, even though it's on Essex Road!) it's the perfect alternative to the noiser Giraffe or S&M cafe nearby. The staff are very knowledgeable and polite and the wine an cocktails at the long bright bar are a an excellent way to while away an evening. Long may Sabor last.

There's a lot to like about Sabor; great cocktails, a decent wine list (mainly based round Spain, Chile & Argentina), bright decor and a kitchen that uses quality ingredients and isn't afraid to experiment with South American favourites.

Unfortunately my overriding memory was that the food was just too salty - even the home-made bread. I'm not one of these people that hates the use of salt in food but this was a little OTT and took the edge off what could have been a great meal.

That aside, highlights were one of the nicest Mojitos I've ever had, my starter of Empanadas de Cordero (Lamb pasties with a spicy, minty relish) and my wife's sorbets - made using South American fruits. Will definitely be giving Sabor another try - in the hope that the salt thing was a one off.
