Ed and Tom Martin have opened their tenth London venue - The Jugged Hare, a City gastropub. Situated close to the Barbican Centre on the site of a former brewery, the restaurant serves British game, meat, fish and shellfish, along with Sunday roasts and a bar bite menu. Diners can watch head chef Richard O'Connell at work in the open kitchen, which houses a state-of-the-art rotisserie and charcoal grill. The bar serves cask ales, fine wines by the glass and bottle, and their self-titled beer brewed in conjunction with Sambrook's Brewery.

Thursday, March 22, 2012 - The bar is an idealised version of an old drinking haunt; pints of real ale (four on draught) are downed at tables fashioned from antique whisky barrels. Bar snacks are a cut-above: chips and gravy; pork crackling with apple sauce; venison scotch egg with Cumberland sauce. There's a bar menu in the same vein...Game is a feature; a perfectly cooked wood pigeon (from the rotisserie) was helped to star status by accompanying lentils with dripping. Also good was a super-size wild boar and venison sausage, which we paired with a sprightly beetroot and fennel slaw.

I booked the Josephine Room for a party of 17 for a special event. Gemma was very helpful and professional in the run up to the event and we were very well looked after on the night itself - the room looked stunning, the food was excellent and the staff were really helpful. I would definitely book again for an event.

The Jugged Hare is so special because of Gemma. I held a fantastic event at the Jugged Hare for business clients, friends and loved ones.

It was sensationally well organised by Gemma - I just don't know how she does it! She is the very paradigm of event management: thoughtful, clever, inventive, creative, loving (incredibly good-looking!) and all topped off with a GSOH!

The food and drink was fine, the room was fine too. But really this evening was all about the organisation: we were all made to feel like special princes and princesses on our most special of days: and it was only really a business meeting! Amazing!

We booked the room downstairs at The Jugged Hare for a joint 30th. Ollie and his team were a model of professionalism. We knew that we were going to get a good meal, but the standard of service, organisation, and the room, really made our party special. I would thoroughly recommend the Josephine room for a party of 20-40 people. Many thanks to all.

Organising a family and friends Sunday lunch in the Josephine room at the Jugged Hare was made easy with Gemma's help. It was a splendid occasion and my guests were very impressed with both the venue and the food. The waiting staff provided excellent service, they were both friendly and helpful (Richard in particular). I was so pleased that everything went so well, the Jugged Hare gets a top rating from me for this event!

A big thanks to the team at the Jugged Hare- we had a challenge in organizing a business dinner for 30 colleagues visiting from the USA, but Gemma & her staff provided a great dining space and set-up, as well as lovely food. Everyone had a great time and we definitely recommend.

Makes a lovely change to be served by people that speak English as their native tongue AND know the menu intimately so can steer you in the right direction. Have eaten here twice recently, once as a table of 3 and again as a table of 13, think the food, ambience and service is so good that you can come here for a serious business meal or a fun night out.

Have already booked my next visit.

Organised a meal here for our Global Advisory Board in their private room (the Josephine Room) on a recommendation and was not disappointed in the service provided.

From the team helping with the organisation to the service on the night, everyone at the Jugged Hare were more than helpful and considerate to the group, from the smallest of things right through to the last minute details.

All that attended the meal remarked on the good food and service and so I would highly recommend the venue to all, and use it again!

Thanks to everyone at the Jugged Hare!

We celebrated Burn's Night and lamented the end of the shooting season in the private dining room, Josephine.

Planning the evening was made extremely easy by the very efficient Gemma Brown, who attended to our every need from putting together a delightful menu, suggesting wines and even organising a Haggis to be addressed at the table.

The evening ran smoothly thanks to Vicky and her attentive detail of friendly and professional staff who pandered to all our high-maintenance needs!

The food was delicious (not to mention plentiful) and at no point did I see an empty glass.

Everyone in our party (made up mostly of people in the hospitality industry) has since emailed me to say how they thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Having been before for a client lunch, I can heartily recommend the Jugged Hare for both business or pleasure, lunch or dinner and am looking forward returning soon.

I would also strongly advise trying their Jugged Hare Ale!
