The staff is great.
The cocktails are wonderful.
The starters are lovely....
BUT
The starters are too big in portion
The main courses are dull
the atmosphere in this restaurant is non-existent
which makes htis another average london restaurant.
Shame, I wish I could say better things because I cna see the potential.

I visited Deya with my boyfriend on a recommendation. The food was indeed very good as we had been told, but it was the service which made our evening very special.... not forgetting the fabulous cocktails we had at the bar on arrival.
We will definitely be returning.

The starters were lovely, great selection , but then things went rapidly downhill. The main courses arrived ..prawns & green chicken, rice & garlic naan. With the exception of the naan , everything was cold. I asked for them to do something about it , they took away the remaining prawns & chicken that were not on our plates! They then brought back the prawns reheated but by this time we had 2 plates os stone cold food. Then the chicken re- appeared. I asked for them to take the cold food on our plates away ....they did.....they scraped it off onto a side plate. After that I did not want the re-heated food , and explained that I would have expected them to take it all away at the same time...including our plates & bring fresh. Eventually the Manager appeared and agreed that this was unacceptable and discounted the bill by 20%, this still left me with a bill for over £50 for a shared starter and wine , and included 12.5% service charge...oh & I also had to ask for my change as they "forgot" to bring it. All in all , a very disappointing evening which we had been greatly looking forward to. I won't be returning.

The good stuff was that the starter was very tasty indeed. I had a seared tuna and mustard seed starter which was fantastically fresh and a very promising start to the food. The rest of the party enjoyed their starters too. Cocktails were interesting and tasty too. Service was attentive.
The problem is that this place lacks buzz and character. It feels distinctly unmemorable and old fashioned. Two main courses of sea bass and mushroom biryani were very dull indeed.
The food is ok but there is nothing about this place that would especially make me go back. It's hard to work out what their selling point is. Sorry.

I have never before had the desire to share my restaurant experiences with the rest of the world. However my experience at Deya was particularly worth shouting about.
My girlfriend and I arrived early for our 8pm booking and had the pleasure of trying the wonderful cocktails served by friendly and welcoming staff. The food was utterly delicous and the service second to none. The attentivenous of the staff made us feel special and we will definetley by returning again soon.

I went to Deya given that I had heard so many good things about it. The decor is nothing fantastic. The food is average. Vegetarian choice is awaful. They only serve one type of beer! The service is shocking. The cocktails, nice but overpriced. Suggestion: A Tesco Indian meal will offer you more satisfaction.

I guess the comparison with London's other 'upmarket' Indian restaurants is only to be expected, but it's worth adding some context to them. Deya represents at least 80% of the quality of Zaika et al, but at a fraction of the price. The last time I had lunch at Cinnamon Club, it cost me £75/head; dinner at Deya last Saturday night came in at not much more than half that amount, and was of equal quality (if a little less imaginative).
I am mystified by complaints about staff, as they have always been charming and attentive when I have eaten here. The only downside to the place - as someone has pointed out below - is that while it gets quite busy during the week, it is very quiet on Saturday nights, so bring your own atmosphere.
Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
