I ate here tonight with a friend, and like some of the previous reviewers, our first impressions of the place were very good. The decor was clean and modern and the menu appetising.

I chose the Thai red chicken curry with steamed rice (£11.95) and my friend opted for the steak (£15.95). My curry consisted of a few small pieces of chicken in a reasonably flavoursome sauce - no vegetables at all! As a fan of thai curries, this was a big disappointment. The portion of rice was also needlessly mean.

My friend's steak was decent sized and cooked as requested, but the potatoes and broccoli ordered as accompaniments were seriously undercooked.

I ordered a large glass of Sauvingnon blanc (£4.00) and this was served at room temperature.

I eat out regularly and like to think I appreciate great food and am more than happy to spend money on it. This, however, was not. This was bland and overpriced food which sadly promised way more than it delivered.

Service charge was added automatically to the bill which always leaves a nasty taste in the mouth.

I left feeling ripped off (not to mention hungry).

After reading the below reviews I was not looking forward to going to Living Rooms, however I did go and found that I did not agree with the bad reviews!!

The food was exceptional and great value for money, the staff were very polite and helpful, atmosphere was great. I will definitely be going back soon.

I had bread with olive oil and balsamic to start and although this is a pretty basic dish it was still exceptionally good, the bread was very fresh and still warm when served. For my main I had Lamb Shank and it was the best piece of lamb I had in a long time, mash potatoe was very soft and moist and I had honey carrots on the side. I could not finish the meal as it was rather large, and at £14.95 very good value for money. My boyfriend had bruschetta, chicken burger and bread and butter pudding (not very adventerous), and he throroughly enjoyed his meal.

You get a big quantity for your the price and the quality was great. I would recommend this restaurant highly, especially for a birthday meal.

Our party of four went to The Living Room on 26 January 2008. First impressions were good. The decor and ambience were good and our waiter was very nice.

Starters: Tiger praws in batter were good, Teryaki chicken was good, duck and pancakes were good. French onion soup tasted like water with pepper in it. When mentioned this was taken from the bill.

Main course: Lamb and suckling pig not too bad, steak was tiny and tasted of liver! The veg was rock hard and dry and the salad was covered in oil.

All in all a nice venue but not all food good.

I visited the restaurant with friends and wouldn’t recommend it, the salad I ordered was meant to be roasted pear and they were tinned and not roasted the steak I ordered tasted of fish (which 2 of my friends had ordered). They ignored the comments about the pear and left it one the bill and the steak was replaced with a non fishy tasting steak which was accompanied by a few unidentified objects looked like nail clippings but surely not !

I would recommend the venue as a bar but not really a restaurant I would want to visit again !

I found the Living room in islington to be the best place too spend a morning or evening. The staff were exceptionally great, the temputure is always right and the tabbcoo smoke hardley noticable.

The toilets are very clean and plenty of them so no long queues.

I recommend this place to anyone.

I went here on a Friday night. All the areas were "reserved" so had to stand at the bar. Even though we spent over £35 on drinks we were not allowed into the dinng area to sit. Very annoying seeing as it was empty. I really can't be doing with standing at a busy bar getting pushed out of the way by other people when there was no where else to stand. But my favourite part of the evening was having money demanded from me by the toilet attendant for using one of the bottles of perfume in the loos. All credit to the manager who went and got my money back. Sort of ruined the evening for us. But I must mention the bartender who wasn't doing a terrible impression of Tom Cocktail Cruise, he was very helpful.

I quite like this place. The bar area is a tiny bit chavvy (think blokes with cropped gelled hair and white trainers, and girls aiming for page 3) but the welcome in the dining area is consistently warm and friendly. In fact I think it probably has some of the nicest waiting staff in N1. The food is absolutely fine and the wine list short but sweet. Ignore the massive erotic painting on the dining room wall - it will seriously put you off your dinner, and for goodness sake don't bring any family here.

I ate here last week and was pretty disappointed. The special starter of smoked salmon and crab was pretty tasteless apart from the weird cloying, sweet candied lemon dressing. The fillet steak was just ok.

The atmosphere wasn't that good because it was quiet, being a Monday night. The service, on the other hand, was cheerful and attentive.

The silver mercedes frozen cocktail was delicious so I'd return for drinks, but not the food.

Have to say....it's an excellent choice if you are looking for a simple menu and delicious food. It really is excellent "pub grub". Service is friendly & quick and for once the pianest is neither intrusive nor irritating. I would recommend for either a girls Sunday lunch club venue or a dinner with yer man.

What a nice surprise this place was. We were looking for somewhere to meet some friends we hadn;t seen for 5 years. Hence we needed somewhere we could talk, but wasn't to regimental and quiet either. This place was perfect. We were sat at a round table (always a hit with me!), which was a half circle of leather booth which meant you felt private amongst a rather large and busy restaurant. The food was very good and the service was very good too, our waitress was attentive but not in your face, helpful anf moct of all HAPPY! The live music was good, not too loud. Their were a few younger folk in the bar area drinking and it seems its like the place to meet before a night out. But if you are in the restaurant you are seperate completley. I'll go back. I want to try the one in W1 too.
