Outsider Tart is a warm and charming local shop but with a hip and trendy feel- seemingly a contradiction that they carry off well. I guess the people behind the counter add to the trendy feel but the stuff on top of it adds to the hips! ;)

As an American Ex-Pat, I can appreciate the authentic treats from home as well as the opportunity to pick up some hard to find US products to do my own baking.

This is just a great place to drop in for a great cup of coffee and some good conversation. The quality of the baked goods is enough to merit going out of one's way to indulge.

Treat yourself.

I have spent the past four years searching every inch of London to find the best baked goods around. It is safe to say I have eaten at over 50 different bakeries and Outsider Tart is hands down the best. For the variety alone they are my favourite. You can guarantee at any time of day they will have at least 5 different types and flavours of brownies, cookies, bars, cupcakes etc.. Their brownies are amazing, the hepburn is my fave. They also do amazing cupcakes, try the coconut one if it's on rotation when you happen to visit. Their peanut butter cheesecake brownie is out of this world too, and not only is their counter filled with delicious treats but their shelves are stacked with Root Beer, Graham Crackers, Angel Coconut and all manner of American goodies which is always a bonus for an American lover like myself.

The Davids who are in charge are completely delightful and will always make you feel welcome and all the staff are super friendly too, and even the patrons! Last time my sister went there (and paid it a special visit all the way from Leeds) one of the fellow OT customers even offered to walk her back to the tube station (as she had got slightly lost on the way there!) It has a great community feel and really you are majorly missing out if you haven't been there yet! What are you waiting for!

Also if Chiswick is too much of a trek for you, they also have a rather delicious array of goodies at the Real Food Market at Southbank every Friday-Sunday but for the full range of goodies and to experience their great customer service you should make the effort to go to Chiswick - it will definitely be worth it!

There are not many places that you can go and eat where the staff and owners have consistent enthusiasm for the quality and variety of their products, store, brand and most importantly their customers. Lucky for Chiswick, because Outsider Tart is is one of those fab places. I am a self confessed outsider tart junkie. I go at least once a week. I turn up at opening, last minute on a Sunday, late night Thursday and have even been known to ring in advance for emergency need of carrot cake. My boyfriend who is also riding the outsider wagon has said to me 'we can only chose one thing today' .. To which I reply ' you mean 1 of everything right?'

My experience is the same every time! Great goodies and great people who are happy to chat about what they are selling, what events are coming up, new products and everything in between. I'm finding it hard to pinpoint specific items as they are all so yummy but the brownies are the BEST in London!! The cakes and pies and cookies (oh my!!) are delicious, not to mention the mammoth most succulent sausage rolls I've ever had. The coffee is also on an excellent quality (my bench mark is sensory lab) and a great range of American fizzy pop. They also have a really well stocked American pantry store where you can get all the things you need to recreate their specialtities at home... But why would you? You can't improve on Outsider perfection.

As a fellow American in London I find Outsider Tart a taste of home with a bit of Britain. The "David's" are very friendly and ever visiting with customers at the counter. It feels like sitting in the family kitchen as often times baking ideas are tossed around for input. The varieties of flavor found in the sausage roll of the day are unique. The fried green tomato for example is something to go back for again and again. For me, the chocolate peanut butter brownie is beyond description and often finds itself on my plate as I stare at the other options longingly. In weak moments a variety of the daily bakes end up in a take away box. Plenty of American groceries line the shelves for utilizing the cookbook!

You will not find anything else like it in all of England!

Tamarind and Thyme

Tamarind and Thyme

Sunday, February 17, 2013 - Johnnycakes with blueberries were thick, fluffy, cornmeal pancakes studded with lots of the purple fruit and served already drizzled with syrup. We, of course, needed more and helped ourselves to the little pitcher set out...Blai was utterly rapturous about his cheesy grits and biscuit while I decided to try something else and went for the migas, an excellent Tex-Mex mixture of scrambled eggs here with sausage, blue corn tortilla chips, onions, jalapenos and sour cream.
