Second visit here last week. Excellent food again, particularly the prawn red curry and the squid. Very busy but good and friendly service. Not for you if you like posh surroundings - but if the food's the important thing, it's perfect.

Second visit. Just as good as in May when I reviewed it the first time. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Went to loo elswhere this time so don't know if its any better. Regarding smoking. This summer it will be illegal anyway so he who laughs last and all that. Bring on the ban!!!!!!! Can't wait to eat here again.

I was set a requirement to find a budget thai restaurant for 6 in Soho which is why i came across the thai cottage. Reading the reviews i thought this sounded perfect so booked up and went. A bit apprehensive when we arrived as it does look like your typical noodle bar but once in the service was fine and the food turned up quickly. Portions were fine and we were allowed to mix and match our mains to get the perfect dish which was a pleasant suprise. Before you start thinking 'This sounds perfect' let me say our whole experience was ruined by one completely ignorant individual who felt the need to smoke half a yard from our table whilst we were eating our meal. This overweight imbercile was politely asked if he could smoke either outside or at least with his other hand to stop blowing smoke directly on our food to which he responded in no uncertain terms 'FO' this is not a non smoking restuarant. I found this a total disregard for others and simply a disgraceful attitude. Yes it may have been a smoking restaurant but i am sure he could refrained for ten minutes from having a cigarette. Quite frankly they should make it non smoking anyway as there is no ventilation in the place and the majority of diners will not appreciate a 'smoked tobacco' meal. Dont get me wrong the food is decent and the prices reasonable but DO NOT GO HERE if smoking bothers you while you eat and i mean if there is a smoker in there you will taste his smoke regardless of where you are sat.

I used to live in Thailand and this restaurant is as authentic as it gets in Soho.

It beats the socks off certain nearby establishments where you have to que to share a table and pay through the nose for the privilage! Everytime I go I can't resist the grilled shrimp starter with spicy sauce.

Family owned, authentic fare and reasonably priced can I say more?

Every time time that i visit this resturant i am totally satisfied, with not only the quality of the food but the level of service provided to all customers regardless of appearance.

I would recommend this restruant to anyone looking for a 10/10 Thai experience, the food is delicious and it doesnt compare to any other. Thank you for such a wonderful authentic experience.

My husband and I were in London for a weekend at the end of April '06 and went to the Thai Cottage on the Friday evening. The surroundings are poor, the toilets are awful, the food is excellent and the service is wonderful. So, if you can forget the loo and the venue you are in for a treat. Suggest you go to the loo elsewhere before you go in. Prices were very reasonable and portions better than average for a Thai meal.

Ignore the one bad review on this page. This is always excellent. The staff are extremely friendly; attentive to tables of two as well as to large groups. The food is fresh and the menu varied. The wine list is small but you can get a great Macon Villages for £14. I always tell people who are reading the menu outside and hesitating to go in. You can't find a better, family-run, value-for-money Thai anywhere else in Central London.

I have been going to Thai cottage since 2002 and it's still one of my favourite thai restaurants in London. I will be moving away in August and I will miss the food incredibly! The service is excellent and they always go out of their way to be friendly and well mannered. This place is an overall 10/10!

Went for dinner before a show on 24 Feb 06. What a lovely surprise, ignore the decor, plain and simple and tuck into real Thai food. Sue and her staff were very friendly and attentive. Food was piping hot and really flavoursome. This is a family business cooking what they eat themselves, nice to see other Thai eating there. Excellent meal and value for money, we will be back...Tony
