My friends and I have spent many a night at Castellos celebrating one thing or another.
We would highly recommend Castellos as the food is of a very high standard and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
It is brightly lit and buzzing with customers, it is a favourite with the locals (like us) and has a great atmosphere.
There is an extensive menu and the food is delicious, whether it's a starter, main course or dessert.
It is well worth trying it out for yourselves, We guarantee you'll go back.

Having read the reviews, we tried this place for the first time on Saturday. Rather than the intimate Italian restaurant that we're used to, this establishment is large, modern (e.g. has suspended ceilings) and has a canteen feel about it. It has a bar area with quite an extensive selection, by the door should you arrive early. The tables have a Swedish look about them and are arranged in rows. The toilets are spotless (which is always a good sign).
The customers are local and so there's a lots of 'Sarf Landan' spoken. The menu is wide ranging with various choices within each food type and the wine list was well chosen.
The manager and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. They explained with great enthusiasm, the different types of wine and mains, when I asked them their opinion of which they preferred. They were of an older generation and you got the feel this was family run. They took pride in their restaurant.
The food was good and plentiful. I've travelled extensively over Italy and this food was of a standard of anywhere that I've eaten.
To sum up.... It's more cafeteria than romantic bistro, but its clean, the staff are excellent and food very well prepared and wide ranging. I echo the comments below and intend to return. Job well done.

Jennifer's commnets are laughable. The place is brightly lit, the seats are cushioned, the atmosphere is nearly always busy and buzzing. Maybe she has the wrong place in mind? I have to defend the place. The food, for what you pay for it, is excellent! The staff are friendly and attentive, the lunch menu is good value, as is the normal menu. In fact, the only negative thing I'd say is that it's quite hard to get a table, but surely that means it's good.

Castello's is my favourite restaurant, the food is lovely, as is the wine and the atmosphere is there is buzzing! And it's always cheap, many times I have been with my mates, and we have 3 course's each and bottles and bottles of wine and we pay no more than £25 per/head!
As for Jennifer's review you sound like a complete snob to me, if you would have let you hair down and just relaxed you probably would have enjoyed it! I nearly always have the Calamari and I ALWAYS have a wedge of lemon and proper tartre sauce, the seabass is divine.

I would like to reply to Jennifer's review in Castello's defence. I have lived in the area for years and this is by far the best place to eat. The service is wonderful and friendly and the food is fantastic. Furthermore the seats are cushioned and thus cannot be described as hard and the prices are extremely reasonable. Furthermore the calamari (please note the spelling Jennifer!) which I often order are always served with lemon. I wonder if Jennifer has ever actually been to Castello's!

I went to Castello this August and found it bursting at the seams with customers at 6.30 pm.
The menu has a wide range of food, all to a very high standard. So good that we've been back again and will be going again and again!
Staff happy and helpful, only too pleased to meet any request made by the customer
Best to make a booking or you could have to wait sometime for a table, it's that good and popular. Bums on seats can't be all wrong.
