Our way of judging whether this restaurant was good was to just order the starter and look at the menu for main courses later. We ordered Calimari and it was dreadful. The squid was as tough as a rubber band, and the batter was very dark and close to burnt, also the tartare sauce tasted like mayonaisse, and it didn''t even come with a lemon to squueze over the calimari.

I'm sure other customers must have had a satisfactory time - if they don't know what real italian food is like. If you're used to iceland/asda frozen italian, then castellos is for you.

Apart from that awful experience the atmosphere in there was laughable. It was like walking into a prison, dark, no candles, echoing walls, uncomfortable hard seats... basically the new definition of no frills is ''castellos''. Even though we only had starters and 3 drinks, we paid £21 - certainly not a 'no frills' price.

I have been to Castello a few times as I live just around the corner. I used to go to the one in Walworth road but recently found the service and food to be of poor quality, it must be because it belongs to different owners now! Anyway, Castello in Jamaica road oozes a friendly warm atmosphere. The manager is such a lovely man who managed to get my sister and I a table the night before my birthday, even though we hadnt booked. We were willing to wait two hours(til 10pm) for our dinner because the food is so gorgeous ( I only go every few months as the food is not good for the waistline)!!! But he squeezed us in,we had a few drinks and managed to have our starter by 9pm, which was great especially as it was a very busy friday night! The service was fantastic, the food was tremendous and the bill was even better! It cost us approximately £25 each and worth every penny and more! LUVERLY!!!!!

Service was great, very friendly staff with a good atmostphere. Although the seating arrangements might not be too convient on a busy night but overall very good value for money and would recommend to anyone who wants a great night out especially for those on a budget.

I absolutely love this place!

went for the first time a couple of months ago and then my cousin and i decided to pop in on the off chance they had a table last night as we were passing. Although we hadnt booked and the place was absolutely heaving they sorted us out a table within 20 minutes.

The food was absolutely gorgeous and the service was great too.

I've already booked a table for my birthday and am looking forward to another nice night.

Have been dining here since the restaurant opened, have always had a lovely meal, the atmosphere is always buzzing and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Recently celebrated a friends Birthday in there, i visted a few days earlier to request a birthday cake which they make for you fresh on the day. the Cake was delicious, fresh fruit and cream sponge.. there was 15 of us, we all had 3 courses and drinks were flowing so i was pleasently surprised whe it worked out £25 ahead.!! totally recommend but DO BOOK at least 3 WEEKS in advance to get your desired time and date.!!

Have been using this Restaurant since it opened and my partner and i find it very difficault to go anywhere else as we find such an excellent restaurant at such reasonable prices a very rare thing,especially in the Bermondsey area or any other for that matter.

Had heard a lot about the restaurant from family and friends and had dined in the restaurant before they moved (elephant and castle). Hard to get a table at the as there always busy which i seen as a good sign. After dining there would recommend to others service was good very welcoming and attentive. Food was excellent as there was a group of us we sampled each others dishes and each dish was out of this world.

As a group we were sharing the bill which was surprisingly extremely reasonable for the standard of service and the quality of food.

Would strongly recommend and shall stay in my mind as one of london's top restaurants.
