The Merchant of Bishopsgate
our review
The Merchant of Bishopsgate Freehouse & Kitchen is now open in the lower concourse of Liverpool Street Station. They're serving a good range of craft beers and cask ales, as well as some interesting wines by the glass (thanks to their enomatic system). The menu includes pub classics like pies, fish and chips and steaks, alongside breakfast options and small plates or 'grazers'.

I've just returned from here after dropping in for a drink and snack with a friend. Never again - we were overcharged on our bill and when we questioned this, were met with rudeness from the waiting staff and the manager. Such a shame as the food is fine - they obviously know they will get trade due to their situation in the station, but I'm sorry, the level of rudeness we experienced is inexcusable.

Please give this establishment a chance, I've been here three times (mornings and evenings) and I can honestly say the food is great, the service is quick if you have somewhere to go and the prices are reasonable.
I would definitely recommend it here!

Don't eat here. We waited over an hour for our food & wish we hadn't. The greasiest crab burger and a revolting chicken burger that was all mayo. I felt sorry for the waiter.

Disappointing service from the waitresses and the female manager; slightly overpriced for what they offer. My companion is very happy with their Gavi, though.

SAT 2/6/2012 Tried this on a sat, paid £3.80 for pint - fair for london, but then got the shock - £5.75 for single bottle of the Belgian beer CHIMAY RED.
Needlss to say i won't go back as IT IS OVERPRICED, i'll walk over to the Hamilton Hall even though its busy.

Have been there twice for a full breakfast (£10). Both visits around 8am and when the place wasn't busy. The place is clean, looks nice and the service is friendly HOWEVER the meal when it finally turns up is normally incomplete and either cold or undercooked. Considering they do make the effect to get good produce, its disappointing that the chef(s) cannot do anything with it.
In summary - If you want a drink after work in a pleasant atmosphere this is a good place. If you want food go elsewhere.
