Mazi
our review
Greek restaurant Mazi is now open in Notting Hill. The menu, put together by award-winning chef Athinagoras Kostakos, includes dishes like grilled beetroot salad with garlic and Greek yoghurt foam, lobster with orzo pasta, and warm feta pastries marinated in honey and black sesame. The restaurant also features a deli selling Greek produce and a 24-cover al freso dining area in the garden.

This place is not for those who are looking for traditional old school Greek food. After all there is plenty of that around London and quite badly executed.
It is more of a gourmet restaurant with a rather elegant palette, brining together traditional Greek flavours in a stylish and modernised manner. I was impressed with the food and the diversity on the plate. All of the plates tasted good, some more successful than others and there is always room for improvement.
The atmosphere is warm and relaxing, overall simplistic and brings people together. The service is also of a good standard and very welcoming.
The wine let me down a little and the bottle was overpriced. I favour for certain Greek wines due to their rich flavours and unique fruitiness, unfortunately what I ordered tasted different from the same producer on the market. Still good but the palette needs expanding and the pricing needs adjusting to give customers the opportunity to taste more of the fine Greek wine.
The portions between starters and mains are a little mixed up, this can also be improved.
I definitely recommend a visit!

Very disappointing. I think the wait staff who served us are suffering from severe depression. I felt sorry for them. The service was really quite terrible . People usually go to Greek restaurants to enjoy themselves so this place did not work. The food is almost edible. It is just not as authentic and fresh as many other Greek joints in London. The prices are ridiculous. I think the combinations on the menu just did not work. The ambitions(pretentions) of this place highlight the fact that Greek Food must use fresh ingredients and can only be simple peasant fare. The tactic is to hit you over the head with canned, pickled and salty rubbish and try to pass it off as modern cuisine.

Incredible! Food heaven. Such an innovative twist on traditional Greek cuisine. Every dish was perfect. The Lobster with Orzo Pasta was absolute perfection. Such a unique blending of flavours and gorgeous presentation. I unfortunately had to pass on the Feta Tempura with lemon marmalade due to an allergy but my dining partner raved about it. Can’t wait to try the al fresco dining on the terrace.

Back from holiday but not yet back to work, my lovely wife out having her hair done and baby G swimming I was at home at a loose end. It was lunchtime and after a morning doing various chores I fancied treating myself to a local lunch out. I had seen that greek cheap eats place “Costa’s” had gone to be replaced with bright new white walled greek place “Mazi”. I had walked past a couple of times and seen what a good facelift they had given the space. On the day of my visit I lingered a little longer in front of the door and saw they did a lunch deal, about £14 for 2 courses and if I remember correctly a few quid extra for a glass of house wine. The stuff on the menu was a little unfamiliar but I thought let’s give it a go. I was warmly greeted by one of the owners and shown through to the brilliant white dining room. They do have an outside courtyard but the weather was terrible so I stayed inside. Despite the possibly stark white interior there was a cozy atmosphere about half the tables were taken and there was a chilled out buzz about the place. The waitress bought me a little shot of Ouzo as way of a freebie and it was very nice, certainly better than some of the stuff I have had in Cyprus.
The owner came over and asked if I was clear on the menu I asked about a couple of dishes and settled on the fried filo pastry parcels with greek cheese and greek sausage which was meant to be spicy to be followed by the angels hair dessert. I also ordered a glass of house white which was fine but with hindsight I should have gone red. The fried filo pastry arrived and was indeed tasty and with a nice burst of heat but not a huge portion though the dipping sauce it came with was hearty and I finished that off with the bread. I liked it but sort of wish I’d had a big salad with it. With fried food you need something to counter act the oil. So a pass on the main but then came dessert. Wow possibly the best dessert I have ever eaten. It was angel hair which is thinly spun pastry covered in honey and syrup however this was combined with lovely unctuous greek yoghurt and sugared roasted hazzlenuts. It was delicious, sweet but with lots of nice texture. Some real pride had gone in turning this out. After polishing off every last bit I had a greek coffee to send me on my way.
All throughout the meal the service was warm and friendly. I’ve walked past a few times since and “Mazi” seems to be getting some good trade and some good write ups on here which is nice to see. I would like to pop back again and give the menu a wider try. We have certainly got a bit more variety now in Notting Hill.

After reading some great reviews in various high end publications i had to visit this new restaurant in Notting Hill. Located less than 5 minutes walk away from the tube it turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. The food was simply stunning and the service impeccable. The Greek wine was also a great accompaniment to the meal
which started with a shot of local liquor.
I have been back a couple of times since and will continue to do so.
Top marks for a restaurant that has redefined my thoughts of Greek food.

After living in London for 12 years I have always craved not only original Greek food but a relaxed atmosphere as well. Experiencing MAZI was more than I could wish for! Their deli area completes what every person loving Greek cuisine and pure organic products could want. Enjoying the garden in the few sunny days with a drink of Ouzo is like sitting in a very high-end Greek taverna!

First of all, I am very apalled with the really bad anonymous review. A. Because when you give such a bad review you should have the dignity to put your name down and B. As a local I have been dining with my husband at Mazi almost every week since they opened and I can not imagine anything like that happening. The food and service have been very consistent and Mazi has truly become our favourite treat. Nevertheless I wasn't there that night and my view can't be clear.
Mazi is great and everyone should try it! It's a little piece of heaven in the heart of Notting Hill. Something long missing from our area.
P.S. It's also great value for the quality they offer and perhaps the previous reviewer has not got any experience with fine dining restaurants in Kensington considering he/she thought £7 for King Prawns is expensive!

Just had the most amazing meal ever in London! Mazi is by far my new favourite restaurant! Feta tempura is to die for..we had 3 in our table! Service was great and overall very good value for the quality of the food. The best thing of the night was the vine covered back yard. It felt like being on holiday! Everyone must try it!

one of the worst dining experiences in London this year. lets start with the good parts: great setting, great décor and the garden is heaven sent during the summer. the benefits end about there...
35 mins to take an order. they came back 45 mins later to say that 2/3s of the menu they had run out so we had to order something else. in fact no mains were really available. chef and head waiter had a massive argument, both walked out.
took about 1 hour 20 to get the food on the the table. terrible.
portions were minuscule and massively overpriced! very expensive for what it is.
we were so looking forward to trying out this restaurant and even willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but needless to say a mistake we wont be repeating.
let me just state: do not go. really bad!
