i had been looking forward to go to the oak for ages since my friend had raved on about how good it was.

we shared a mixed antipasti platter which was very nice and did have some nice wine with our meal. we all ordered the tuna (about £17 for the dish). we were asked how we wanted it cooked and we all ordered it as rare as possible. after a long wait our mains finally arrived and the tuna was well done, cooked right through! we complained because it is supposed to be a nice restaurant, £17 is a decent amount of money and the staff had specifically asked how we wanted the tuna cooked. when we complained the staff didn't deal with our complaint graciously. we pointed out that we had asked for the tuna to be cooked rate and the waitress said that she knew that (then why did you serve it to us then!!!!!). the waitress was very surly and told us that we would have to wait again if we wanted to send the tuna back but we still did. the second time around, 1 steak was probably rate, another medium and another well done! by thtat time it was very late and we didn't want to cause a scene again but it was a shame because it was a good piece of tuna

the place was very busy packed with REALLY skinny skin and bones modelly type looking women from the ya ya crowd (no surprise given the area) who i can only presume were eating.

wine was good. my friend assured me that the pizzas were excellent and worth going back for, not sure if i will but will see

Great atmosphere good pizzas. Extensive wine list, staff friendly. Had a very nice night. A nice average restaurant. A touch pricey but not OTT. Lovely for a drink outside or meal on a wet wet day

I recently visited the Oak with a group of friends and enjoyed some fantastic cocktails in their new upstairs bar, before going downstairs to eat Supper. The service was friendly and informative, and our meal was very good. We will definitely be back!

As you can see on the comments in 2006 and 2005, the oak was really an enjoyable place 2 years ago... Unfortunately, it is far from being the case now... I went yesterday night with my boyfriend (we both work in this business) to try this place, relaunched recently, and we were really disappointed. We wouldn't advice this place to anybody anymore. Too expensive for what you have... The service is slow and unefficient, the wine was disgusting....The place lost also its charm with its new decoration. The management has to be reconsidered to my opinion and the kitchen should be doing what they used to be good, simple tasting food.

The Oak was a delightful find. Although it seemed an average-gastro pub on the bottom floor, we had chosen the restaurant above. Quiet, mercurial decor. The low lighting and black materials gave the place a secret, luxurious atmosphere. The tapas served to share was extremely well prepared, immaculate plate design and delicious options. The white wine presented was recommended, light but fragrant to complement the fish dishes. A smart and unusual restaurant to make an evening one to remember.

The pizzas are delicious. My favourites in London. I used to go weekly, but recently have not visited often. It has become rather unpleasant as the music is too loud. It is a restaurant, not a club so it would be great to be able to talk to the people that you are eating with. I agree with the previous reviewer that it was better when it was background music.

Great food. Great wine. Just too darn loud!!
